And people get paid for this??
-
Should send those to the hire boat company. Lots of errors in both of these. I think the problem with day boats is that they try to get as far as they can, so rush everywhere and quite often (as in the first one) too many people trying to control the boat.

Do the signs say 72 or 48 hrs? Just wondering because we will be up later in the year. Also try The Knott bar under the railway opposite deansgate station. Great beer & food.
Cheers
Gareth
72hrs with no return within 14 days (£10 a day fine for over stopping)

Could you not cut the poles and get something to use as inserts to rejoin when in use. If you get something that just slides in (or over) the tube one bit can be glued in and the other piece will just slide on when in use. The cover should hold everything in place.
Having said all that I just fold my pram cover forward (semi-trad) and if I want to take the cover off, leave the poles where they are.

Thanks for the update we will be arriving just before lunch time today. Please say hello if you see us
E.T.A. Arrived, found a spot by the white walk bridge

Will be in Castlefield tomorrow. Is there :-
1) plenty of space at the moment
2) any place to get rid of rubbish (if not anywhere between Sale and Castlefield)
3) time limit on mooring
Thanks

Anyone recommend best place to get a pumpout (cost if you know) on the bridgewater between Preston Brook tunnel and Manchester. Ta.

Update 4th May. Went past yesterday and wondered what was happening at these two sites. Both are still as reported above (including the single moored boat on the offside). The jetties are extremely long would take a week to walk down on :-)

If your flush with money then go for an all singing and dancing auto system. But if your like most of us then the option is to use a smaller dish (35-40cm). They don't have to be aligned so accurately as the 60 or 90cm dishes or the funny shape sky ones, and isn't as susceptible to the boat moving around, takes only a min or two to set up.
Once you have the elevation set. Fix a small spirit level on the arm so you can set this (if it changes due to boat listing etc...) level first, then just point roughly SE and use an inline indicator, or as I do just move the dish slowly til you get a picture then fine adjustment using the signal strength indicator on screen.

Will be keeping an eye on this post as we are doing the Leeds Liverpool (west to east) next week. We always look out for Wetherspoons. The ale is generally good. We spent a few hours in the one in Skipton a couple of years back when the weather was horrendous.

Well did the trip this morning without any problems. check on the gauging chains last night and had plenty of room. Just as a precaution I too the solar off the top boxes, it seemed wiser to spend 20 mins removing them than paying £200 when I smashed on of them. But as it happened plenty of clearance, even left the little tree on the top and that only just touched at one point. thanks again for the comments.

Thanks for your comments. Will hope not to have to dismantle anything then. I'm sure the tunnel staff will stop us if there is any doubt.
I take it that there is no need to book passage at the moment is there, as winter is Nov to March??
-
I wonder how you dry dock that for blacking??
-
How low is it?? the Nicholson's says 5ft 9inch which si only about 4inch above my roof line so if it is then I will have to take everything off the roof (including bags of coa)l to get through.

Same thing but cheaper from Go Outdoors. Guess it just depends where you are close too. Caravan dealers will probably have them as well.

Looks comparatively deserted there compared to when we went through in October. For a good 150-200yds there was only just room for one boat to get through the multi breasted hire boats

Cant comment just yet, doing my course tomorrow. So by tomorrow evening I will know everything there is to know, maybe

If you have a twin tub then you will have to drag it out from under the worktop or not have a worktop in the first place, so what I am saying is my vote goes for the automatic. Cloths can be dried on a cloths horse outside or if you can find a dryer at a laundrette or one at a service sites on the canal. or marina.
-
Hope the EA don't consider it a hazard and close the canal while the polluted water is removed. That could take a while.
I remember when I lived in Blackpool, Kids used to throw washing up liquid into the water slides at the pleasure beach and foam used to go all over the place. They now put anti foaming in to prevent it.

Despite this being the normal wind up at the beginning of April, Its an interesting concept and would indeed become something of a tourist attraction. Wigan could do with a boost. I don't think it could be done in one lift though due to length of cable needed. It would be great if your trying to get somewhere quickly, but locks and all their little quirks are what boating is all about.

Well we are on the river at Trent lock. If you dont know it then suffice to say it is a rather exposed location. The river is rising and its starting to blow and its persisting it down with rain. Lets see what tomorrow brings we are the only boat on the floating pontoon. Its a 72 hour mooring which is up 2morro afternoon but if it gets worse I aint going anywhere due to safety aspects.
Tim
Forecast is for 50+ mph winds around Nottingham tomorrow so I think its batten down the hatches day

Thank you Catweasel. Its a shame it did not stop the sealing washer from falling out also.
By the way while we are here. I followed a link from a thread, before i started posting, to your website a few months ago regarding loosing coolant from the system for the slight modification which I will carry out shortly so thanks for that also.

Did it all go back together again without any problems? I'm doing my filters next week
-
Peter,
Ref. my earlier post I have found ours in the garage. It's a cylindrical one, model P2000.
It's yours for the price of the postage if you wish, it's a bit er oily but you would expect that.
PM me if interested.
Thanks for the kind offer, but decided yesterday (before your message) to bite the bullet and ordered myself one.

Our favourite moorings are in the arm where it says Coal Wharf Car Parks on the map - you can moor on either side and it is very rare to have any problems. The City Cruisers fingers are usually occupied by live aboards.
Steve
Thanks for that

Can't seem to find it in any post but what is the equivalent Baldwin filter for the Vetus WS-180 which is the first water/fuel filter (not the engine mount one) Or a suitable replacement unit that has the same fittings that uses cheaper filters. Links and part numbers if you have them please. Thanks
