Nick is right, do not use any equipment or frequencies you are not licensed to use. OFCOM inspectors have a fair bit of power, and if they do catch you not only can it result in prosecution but the loss of all transmission and receiving equipment you own plus potentially the "vehicle" it is being used in. (ie, your boat)

If you have your vhf marine cert could you use these on them frequencies and also pmr446 without the need of the ham radio operators licence

  2. Just ordered my Baofeng UV5R off Ebay. For £35 it really is a serious bit of kit and for those with even a modicum of interest, it's functionality can't be overstressed:

It will cover all the relevant Marine Frequencies (legal to transmit if you have the relevant licence), and great for listening in on the local VHF/UHF repeaters (or transmitting if you have a Ham Licence). PMR446 is covered too, but is not legal to TX on. Though who is going to come running up the towpath, waving a summons if you occassionally TX on 446 (using low power - 1watt in this case).........

Edited to add: ....and don't you just love the way the Chinese 'spell check' their English on these promotional photo's. 'Frequenvy' 'Brand' :D

Hi did it arrive and is it easy to programme up

Thinking about buying a Baofeng UV-5R, as I'm also looking to get into short range 'Ham':

Quite a range of capability and it can operate on Marine VHF frequencies (for recreational purposes only of course!) if programmed correctly. All for less than £30 quid, un-programmed 'out the box', or £40 as above. The only reason it's 'not' PMR446 compatible is because it cannot operate on 0.3 watts (or whatever the legal limit is on PMR!??). You can program in all the Motorola 'Walkie-Talkie' frequencies too :D

Sorry to sound daft, just looked at these and it says 99 channels, in theory could it be programmed easily by me to all vhf marine plus standard eight channels on pmr446 if so it would save having two radios kn board

  4. When I fitted a new bath, I was left with a white bath and a cowpat green basin. The basin is a special corner unit made of plastic. I rubbed it down with a fine wet and dry paoer and sprayed it with a white aerosol paint. 5 years later it is still O.K. Worth a try. I wil see if I can find the tin to get the name of the paint.

Hi please let me know which one

  5. When the air warms up, it expands. But the physical properties ie the moisture (RH) content cant expand as they are a given density so what happens is they disperse themselves more into the expanded air thus spreading themselves further and lowering the relative humidity. But whilst its worth noting that the humidity is lower the moisture content will stay the same, so once the air cools down again the rh will rise inline with dry bulb temp dropping.

100% rh is when they wet and the dry bulb are of equal temperature, normally chucking it down with rain then.
