  1. Things are looking up, Tesco agreed to end my contract and also take the phone back without any early termination fees or charges for the mobile.

Have to say the lady i dealt with from the management team was fantastic and really helpfull. Also the returns team couldnt be more supportive, the only couple of sad parts is the first line of defence in the customer care team obviously read from a script and dont read the notes on the system before they start quoting the terms and conditions. So each call is always 10 mins of explenation where i was up to and who is doing what. Other sad part is i am leaving Tesco who i have to be honest and say their service up to this isue has been brilliant.

I like dealing with people and not automated computers and pressing my keypad to get to the right department, also having slight hearing difficulties it was good having UK call centres.

  2. Been with tesco 3 years in total, i renewed after 2 years for further two

If i can get out i have tried orange sim and get 75% on the signal as opposed to 0% with tesco, but the only network offering good coverage mins and text seems to be virgin who use tmobile and orange networks. Will keep you informed of tesco outcome.

I must say though upto this point i gave never had a problem with tesco

  3. Hi after points of view, i have a mobile with Tesco for nearly 3 years and recently in last 6 weeks no longer get reception at home.

They use O2 which up till then had been fine.

After complaining over the 6 weeks i found out from tesco that the local mast has an issue but O2 cannot gain access to fix. So are unlikely to give me a date when normal service will be resumed. Also (worryingly) on the O2 service status it says everything working properly and fine.

Tesco have finally concided to letting me cancel my contract but want to charge me for the mobile even though i said i dont want it and will return it to them.

Cant help feeling they have dimminshed the service and coverage to me but still want to charge for a phone i dont want. I think its unfair

Would i have a case to go to the ombudsman.

    Vheers

  4. please don't take this the wrong way but lets hope for consistencies sake that C&RT don't offer you the discount. I was refused last year when I should have noticed that my boat Licence was on the verge of expiry and that you too get a barrage of replies reminding you of how its "your responsibility to ensure your boat is fully licensed". Yes I am being sarcastic, Yes I am still smarting that I wasn't reminded last year and Yes it still goes to prove that nearly a year on all the electronic reminders that C&RT promised would be in place to stop this sort of thing happening again are not in place. :banghead:

Hey id feel the same, but the future is direct debit i think.

  5. Good job i rang this morning, apparently its been sold, lol bit worrying really as i wasnt aware i was selling it. They cant say who or why my account was changed but i now have to wait for them to unblock my account.

Heyho im sure it will sort its self out

  6. They are 'not running late' I suspect but rather they are proving again you need a back up as they sometimes slip up it seems, or so some would have us believe.

My 'back up' is putting a reminder on my phone, rather like I do with other important stuff I have to pay. A basic paper calendar or diary would serve a similar purpose.

My second back up is taking note of the expiry date on my licence, which is clearly displayed upon it.

    HTH.

    Good idea about the phone,

  7. Why is it the sound of rain on a boat / tent / caravan sounds so good? Strange really.

It is clear the OP made one serious mistake, everything was fine until he "set off home" ... the moral of the story is therefore don't go home .. stay out on the cut!

    Lol lesson learned

Because it's outside, you're protected from it and immune to it and, as noted above, it thus enhances your feeling of cosiness (or, for Transatlantics, coziness).I am surprise by Geoff's reaction to geese noises - I have always found the sounds of ducks and geese going about their business to be one of the attractions of boating. I am especially impressed when a squadron of geese flies over in close formation, honking away as they go, "multi-tasking" I guess it would be called nowadays. This happened here ten minutes ago!

Sorry wasnt aware it sounded negative, it was meant to say all is well whilst watching them waking up for the day,

  8. On holiday this week and I woke this morning moored nr heatons bridge at 4.30am, rain was bouncing like mad in the roof so no chance of getting back to sleep.

Made a coffee and sat in the cockpit looking at the ducks waking up for the days chasing boats for bread routine. Everything in the world was fine for a moment

Then set off home around 7.00 am, saw a drowned dog, prop got chewed on wood, canopy started leaking, ran out of fuel, realised no bacon, to early for cafe, idiotic text messages from work, credit card statement when i arrived home, mouldy strawberries in fridge and thought if i had only slept in a bit longer i wouldnt feel so grumpy.x

  9. I like my Viking 23 grp as its relatively easy to maintain. However if i had the funds, time and space i would like a metal narrow boat. But i have a question which i dont want to spark a row over.

Would a springer be more robust than GRP as these always seem more affordable and could be a way of me getting a steely later on ?

  10. All the flue gases will be flued away, otherwise the stove would kill you. Of course when the stove goes out, its effect is lost. It's not magic! And yes, the stove acts by reducing the relative humidity not the absolute humidity, but it is RH that is relevant for all practical purposes.

So if you need to keep the RH down below ambient in a cold boat, then the humidifier is the way to do it. If you want to keep it below ambient in an occupied boat, a stove is the way to do it because presumably you want warmth as well as dryness.

That burning coal or wood produces water vapour, as per your original post, is completely irrelevant because it is all sent outside. That is the main thrust of my disagreement.

I have my opinion you yours !

  11. Erm... NO!

Not unless your coal stove has no flue and puts all its combustion products into the cabin, in which case a bit of humidity would be the least of your worries! It is of course true that burning fossil fuels creates water vapour, but this is discharged via the flue outside. A coal or wood stove is one of the best ways of ensuring a cosy dry boat, in part due to the MOISTURE-FREE HEAT and also because the draw of the stove helps the ventilation.

Disagree in part, whilst a reasonable percentage will be flued away, once the fire has cooled down the atmosphere will as well, which means that the air surrounding that has been increased in temperature will cool down and the moisture trapped as a gas will revert to condensate on windows and colder surfaces. As i said i dont disagree that heating will help, keeping fire stoked 24hrs a day even when unattended i think would be difficult. Therefore i would recommend a dehumidifier.

  12. Refrigerant dehumidification will work at its most efficiently above 12c, below this use a dessicant dehumidifier. If you are putting heat on then try and use an electric type heater as fossil base fuels ie wood coal release up to .8 ltr of moisture per kg burnt back into the atmosphere when burning. So you may transfer energy/heat into the boat to evaporate moisture but unless its well ventilated younwill also increase the RH and moisture content.

So in short, yes plenty of heat and ventilation or dehumidifier and close all the windows. Also if you do buy a dehumidifier try and get one with a gravity drain and place the dh on the kitchen draining board so the condensate drain drips away down the plug hole, this saves emptying it or it switching off once full.

  13. i have an android and my daughter has an iphone, we use TANGO it has to be installed on both phones and is free from here http://www.tango.me/ works the same as facetime.

Looked at that but as in OP needs to be something that will talk to facetime, appreciate everyones effort it looks like i will have to get one of those little ipod classics apparently that has facetime on it
