  1. I was considering alpacas, they can keep the grass down on the towpath by the boat, tow it if the engine fails and spit at cyclist passing by too fast. biggrin.png

Also get a free jumper every year

  2. I have never been asked why when I have cancelled any subscription. Correspondence back and forward about why would soon cancel out any benefit their gifts had been.

Personally I will never be a friend. If, (and I suppose it is a big if) they ever changed to membership with members having some say and a feeling of "Ownership" then I would happily join.

Me too, I don't want to be a friend I want to be a member and have some feeling of partnership.

  3. Ah but you be woman and woman renowned for chatting and not taking notice....Tis tough hat we wear.

At least you pointed it out so did your duty with regards H and S..

If it had been man through hole in unstable bank 2ft from edge then reporting technique could have differed with use of Anglo Saxon terms to illustrate point of entry.

Dash off email to CRT to document and then have Magnum moment...I do in times of trouble....

I wonder why it is that boat people don't immediately pick up the phone and dial lawyers 4 you as people would if it were to happen on the street unsure.png

  4.

It is the responsibility of both steers to avoid a collision and both should make their manoeuvre both in good time and such that they are clear to the oncoming boat .............. At least that is what the rules say

And this was my main objection to the TV programs presented by Timothy West, calling boating a contact sport was in my view unhelpful, and it wasn't just once but appeared to be a feature of each of the programs.

  5. I wonder what CRT will do if it is found to be banana shaped.

Will it be a full rebuild or a modification. I feel that a full rebuild may be in order or maybe they can simply alter the maximum dimensions able to pass that area safely and advise people with bigger boats not to attempt it.

Lock-ing. Lock (as in canal) is a noun.

Maybe they will alter the other side to match then it will be uniform width throughout - - - - - - - Hhhhm then we all have to make our boats banana shape clapping.gif

  6. Some might be interested in following this amazing project taking 30 children from Stratford East London to Stratford upon Avon while they learn Shakespeare's "Midsummer Nights Dream" to perform when they arrive in Stratford. I would like to congratulate CRT in supporting this great project

And the London narrow boat project for running the waterways side of it :-) The LNBP is running the six narrow boats that be used for the event.

  7. I wonder about potential insurance issues, since the team of, "Say pen pushers is now being paid by the company on company time to do strenuous activities in potentially more hazardous environment" doesn't that mean that the companies insurance risk has changed? I would think that in the event of an accident the initial claim by the injured party would be on the company insurance.

  8. I have some tiller pins spare I have made from solid brass pokers.

Shaft is 8mm dia by approx 80mm long, handle approx 75mm long

I may be persuaded to part with them.

    PM me if interested.

Thank you for the offer but I have a figurine appropriate to the proposed name of the boat so I will probably carry on and do it myself, I have access to a machine shop so it wont be a problem. :-)

  9. Are the pin parts of the tiller pin a standard size I'm making one for my boat (which I don't have yet but has been ordered), from photos they look to be about 6mm dia by about 100mm long then the figurine on top.

  10. I wonder if anyone has seen or designed him/herself a canopy to keep light rain from coming in the side hatch. I've looked for one on the web, in magazines and, more recently, at the Crick show and ... zilch.

We like to keep the side hatch open for ventilation but, due to the cabin's tumblehome even a slight drizzle means the floor gets soaked. Our boat has a continuous L-section grab rail and I think it should be possible to make a one-piece plastic moulding that clips on to the grab rail and that extends out some 8" over the side hatch. I intend to make a plywood prototype just to see if it works but I'd be interested to know if anyone else has invented this particular wheel already and, if a supplier exists, how to contact them.

Edited to mention that this is only for when the boat's moored, not underway! And that a one-piece moulding should be pretty flat and easy to stow away inside when not in use.

Did you see the canopies on the Dudley Trust boat down by the marina at Crick? They had a light aluminium tube frame in two parts covered with a material and plastic canopy, looked the business.

  11. Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valourous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition! The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V.
