If we all had your attitued then the canal network would just fall into disrepair, in an ideal world the revenue would pay for people to do the work and all would be well but its not.

I've been a plumber for 19 years and not found the need to use ptfe, I have been known to use boss white if I thought the pipe had imperfections but I stick by if you apply the right torque they are as good dry.

Nuts and olives work very well as long as they are not overtightened and its a good thing to go back around them a week later with the spanners(ones that are near enough)and just check as heating up and cooling down in any degree can stretch them initially.

I can't set a tickover one time it will sit at a reasonable speed then after awhile it will speed up to three times the speed then on other ocassions it will sit at a resonable tickover for twenty minuets then just drop off and stop there is no set pattern.
It can do both Mike.
Sorry not to acknowledge your post Les it's good to hear from you again and I hope that shiny green SR is purring away in your boat.

Am I right in my understanding from this topic that the governers do have a bearing on the tickover and that a broken governer spring would affect said tickover.

Only go for a boat with a lister engine in if you are happy to have a noisey, smokey, oil leaky, vibrating large lump of british metal next to or under your feet.

If the primary or hot pipe is to close to the cold then heat transfer will take place and warm the cold water giving a short burst of warm water each time you use it. This is also a very good way of contracting legionares.
