A million pounds? That's too much; they would do better to reduce the top prize and to use the saving to create more smaller prizes, so that bond holders could win more often.
Agreed. Like the lottery isn’t it! Anyway, good luck come May the first.

Anyone know if there is a supplier of vactan, anywhere between Penkridge going towards Autherley then up the Shropshire canal? Thanks in advance. Ian.

Yes, there is always the feeling that, the week after you sell them, one of your numbers would have won a big prize (is the top prize £100,000 now?)
‘‘Tis ten times that.. would settle for your quoted figure though! Best we have managed so far is fifty pounds.

That's unduly dismissive. Given the choice between having £25 and not having £25, which would you go for?
That said, I have a few thousand invested in Ernie Bonds and over the last five years they have yielded only about 2% on average. But, that's better than most savings accounts currently offered by banks and BS.
You have done well. Our bonds have yielded just under one percent over the last two years. We will keep them though as you just never know huh!

As pearley said it would be good to have a list of trusted people in the canal world. The Kawasaki forum I visit has a list of member recommended suppliers and mechanics. Could we?

So. Back on topic it seems my wife may well be right......Again!

Because the locks are 7' 4" wide (to give them a bit of leeway).
Thanks for reply Alan. My question should have said then why were narrow locks built at that width?
-
As we cruising today and chatting, my wife asked me why Seven feet had been selected as the width for narrow beam canals. Ali suggested it was a good width for sleeping across. I assume there is a different reason?
-
Yes up by top lock.

Left Marina today for the next six months. Moored for first night now at Fradley. It’s lovely

Lovely daffodil displays unless Mrs smelly has had them all in her vase over the last month or so.
Is it really only a month?

Im going insane stuck in these marinas how the hell do peeps do it full time for years on end?
They are rather depressing. I told my wife of your gloom over the red boards and she suggested an image of you sat on a deck chair, starring hour after hour at the water level boards.. can’t get it outta my head now lol .

I agree, I had a 1963 model in 1978 that paid £500 for with a smokey lump that I rebuilt, but the carbs use to need balancing every month or so and it ate spark plugs like they were going out of fashion, not to mention rear A frame bushes. But oh how I would like it now.

I think if a builder exposed himself to me I would do a runner.

I swapped my 1971 lotus Elan last year for a motorbike. I owned the Elan for ten years and was very reliable. Just took a lot of looking after. That’s what the old Lotus’s need, love and care. Beautiful car!

I have come across two Amber Boats both at the time Brand New , the finish on both especially the Carpentry was in my humble
opinion pretty exceptional . As far as I remember they were constructed in Gdansk which is a centre of Shipbuilding and Heavy
Engineering in Poland , I believe either Amber or the Importer went into Liquidation
Our Amber boat at ten years old still looks very good. Paint is still very good. Internal fit out is in excellent nick. They built boats of quality at a pretty fair price. Believe they all came with things like aqua drive, hospital silencer, good quality electrical fittings etc. Maybe lack detail finishes like scrolls in the steelwork and fancy carved wood but what you get is a good solid boat, built to last.

We have owned an Amber boat for three years. It’s ten years old. Superb boat, quality build inside and out. As per previous poster our surveyor was very impressed with the boat.
-
It’s far from the worst website I’ve seen. Could we maybe cut them some slack on spelling and wish them luck with boat building? Seems to be fewer builders around then ever.

When I was buying I spent several months belting around the country on my motorbike looking at all sorts of boats. Apart from giving me a good idea of what's out there, it was fun.
To be honest I had no intention of buying during my first year of searching - I was going to take my time, carefully consider all the options and then eventually make a reasoned decision.
HA, not a chance, the boat found me (with the help of Venetian Marina) and I had five happy years cruising.
Sounds kinda familiar. I was passing a marina just after going to view a new motorbike for sale. Popped in for a coffee and half hour later had brought a boat instead. They sneak up on you !

Should have been called Simon and Garfunkel..... Bridge over troubled water. But I can see the Floyd /Waters link.
I recall it as more of a wall than a bridge. My favourite so far was when going down into Stratford upon Avon and being greeted with the written words ‘welcome to Stratford, have a lovely visit’

Let’s hope it’s filled up over the last four years!

Vactan supplier.

Yes Alan I find Vactan to be by far the best rust killer available. As you say a devil to find without going online. It’s not desperate I only have a couple of spots to treat. May have to wait until I’m home to order it.
