I think he was Italian, left over specimen from the Roman Empire.

Every time the English approached the Welsh border he would pop out of his cave, wave his arms threateningly, and shout "Offa you go!"

actually king offa of mercia was anglo/saxon the welsh were the remnants of the roman empire citizens of britain

  2. I would like to say discussions on here through there get heated there do not generally get nasty or vicious. I believe being a mainly boating community we always revert to being friendly and would help anyone on here if we are in the position to do so unlike many general forums The banters prove my point.

though I am sure others will say I am being naive.

  3. The major powers should:

    01. Declare a commitment to create an Islamic state. We did it for Israel, we should do it for Islam as well.

    02. Stop killing Islamist leaders. We need leaders to negotiate with, leaderless mobs are the hardest to create peace with.

    03. Actively strengthen the Islamist power hierarchy.

    04. Set up a convention of as many Powers as possible with the declared aim of redrawing country borders in accordance with current tribal populations and with an enormous budget to ease the adjustment of affected peoples. Not just islamic countries but all countries across the globe. The Falklands would become Argentinian, Gibraltar Spanish, Acrotiri Cypriot, and the Kurds would get a home. Many more peoples and countries would be affected. Special arrangements with the new host nations for eg British bases in Cyprus would then be negotiated by those countries wanting to use them on a renting not ownership basis.

In short we need to strengthen the leadership of our opponents so they can maintain the strength of their groups without having to employ an extremist agenda. Then we need to address their complaints.

so in the case of the falklands and gibraltar you would in impose upon them citizenship of a foreign country against their will,

Gibraltarians have already threaten that if that became the case there would do a Rhodesian and claim unilateral independence and have hinted that there would offer the harbour facilities to any large navy that would want them ,

as for the falklands you forget that people of the falklands voted to stay british this was before the illegal invasion by the Argentinians

So by you thinking lets hand back the Isle of man to the Norwegians, channel isle back to france

  4. I'm not sure dragging up history has any relevance. The world has moved on (along with people's views and beliefs), and history is what it is "history".

What's happening at present, and the way it is being addressed does not fit perfectly with any historic happening.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. George Santayana

"History repeats itself because no one was listening the first time."

"Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it."

  5. Had a Great Uncle who was ex Indian army when ever his maliara broke out his wife my great aunt would load him up on the hottest curries (or so my childhood memories tell me ) and after a couple of days he was right as rain (there again it could have been the medicine ).

  6. In fluid mechanics, displacement occurs when an object is immersed in a fluid, pushing it out of the way and taking its place, so that it can be weighed.

An object that sinks also displaces an amount of fluid equal to the object's volume. Thus buoyancy is expressed by Archimedes' Principle which states that when this happens, the weight of the object is reduced by its volume times the density of the fluid. If the weight of the object is less than this quantity, it will float, if more it will sink. The amount of fluid displaced is directly related (via Archimedes' Principle) to its weight.

Yes. I do realise that and I realise all that it means. For the result to have lived up to the expectations of UKIP, the media and anti Corbyn Labour MPs - all of which were predicting a close race, a majority of less than 1000 for Labour and even a possible win for UKIP - then the UKIP vote would have had to increase, not just in terms of vote share but in terms of actual numbers and it would have to have done so at the expense of Labour. It didn't.

This is why Farage has been squealing like a pig all day about the result being bent. It was an unmitigated disaster for the party. He's not speaking to real people though when he's saying these things, he's speaking to an especially dull section of society - UKIP activists and voters - he needs them to believe they was robbed. They won't believe it though, not even they are that thick. This is it. Bye bye UKIP.

I think he will cling on for all he's worth till the bitter end claiming its a conspiracy of the establishment

  8. The only issue with that is that if we were trying to support the Anchor and can work something out there (somebody has suggested the 'other' room?) then the Anchor - Brewood is quite a treck to do a fun convoy cruise and also involves a lock which would slow things down massively.

The good think about the Anchor to Gnosall is that it's only about 90 mins and easily doable as a short afternoon (i know there is a lot of banterers who only have one 8 o'clock in their day) hop from one pub to another.

If we were going to make this a 2 day'er, would the fact that they don't do much food at the Anchor be the end of the world? We could perhaps do our own 'bring a plate' on the Friday and then have a proper pub menu at whichever pub we chose in Gnosall for the Saturday evening.

Just a thought how about having a picnic between the anchor and gnosall
