  1. We know they dont and yet still proceed to bomb them, that makes us equally culpable.

Yes no surprise thats your opinion, I bet you have a stock of white feathers especially for such occasions dont you?

You may not want to repeat that anywhere in Derry, the Bogside massacre entailed multiple people being shot while running from the army, some others while tending to the injured. These soldiers shot to kill, that their orders werent written down doesnt take away from that.

I imagine John was talking about a specific circumstance where a prone and passive person, as was JCdM from all reports, could have been shot in any part of his body as easily as in the head.

You may not want to read the Stalker book or you may get very personally insulted, the circumstances of the Stalker enquiry also dont help the case for there not being a shoot to kill policy. Personally I have no problem with StK in the events that were investigated the PIRA members were there to kill soldiers/policemen and got what they deserved.

Also you quantify it as after Bloody Sunday, is that your way of saying Bloody Sunday was shoot to kill?

As for Jenlyn mentioning JCdM's immigration status, no surprise they brought that up totally out of context.

the rules of engagement in the form of the yellow card came in after bloody sunday

the british government sent us in to northern Ireland with the normal rules of war

so if you are fired at, like at bloody sunday you reply with covering fire which is not aimed at selected targets hence the f**k up that was bloody sunday

  2. Do you not remember the shoot to kill policy in northern Ireland where people where shot in the back while fleeing form the army?

Who have we declared war on?

Do you not remember the shoot to kill policy in northern Ireland where people where shot in the back while fleeing form the army?

Who have we declared war on?

after bloody sunday no solider shot anyone in the back running away armed or not by the rules of the yellow card that was murder

The shoot to kill you alluded to was investigated and no proof was found .

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoot-to-kill_policy_in_Northern_Ireland

I take any insinuation that british solider shot unarmed civilian in the back as a personal insult.

  3. What relevance does that have to the fact there were no PIRA attacks in Manchester in the 70's ( as far as I know) or bombs left in shop doorways as a common method of attack.

Just for clarity IED left in doorways including shop doorways was a common tactic of IRA in the 70s and 80s to catch out solider/police who took shelter in them.

  4. here is a list of other major incidents in the uk in the 70s

Attacks involving violence or serious threat to life[edit]

    1970s[edit]

1971, 12 January: Two bombs exploded at the house of government minister Robert Carr. This attack was one of 25 carried out by the Angry Brigade between August 1970 and August 1971. The Bomb Squad was established at Scotland Yard in January 1971 to target the group, and they were apprehended in August of that year.[1][2]

1971, 31 October: A bomb exploded in the Post Office Tower in London causing extensive damage but no injuries. The "Kilburn Battalion" of the IRA claimed responsibility for the explosion.[3]

1972, 22 February: The Official Irish Republican Army killed seven civilians in the Aldershot bombing.

1972, 19 September: The group Black September posted a letter bomb to the Israeli embassy in London killing an Israeli diplomat.[4]

1973: The Provisional IRA exploded a car bomb in the street outside the Old Bailey. A shard of glass is preserved as a reminder, embedded in the wall at the top of the main stairs.

1973, 10 September: The Provisional IRA set off bombs at London's King's Cross Station and Euston Station injuring 21 people.[5]

1974, 4 February: Eight soldiers and 4 civilians killed by the Provisional IRA in the M62 coach bombing.

1974, 17 June: The Provisional IRA planted a bomb which exploded at the Houses of Parliament, causing extensive damage and injuring 11 people.[6]

1974, 5 October: Guildford and Woolwich pub bombings by the Provisional IRA left 4 off duty soldiers and a civilian dead and 44 injured.

1974, 22 October: A bomb planted by the Provisional IRA explodes in London injuring 3 people.[7]

1974, 14 November: James Patrick McDade, Lieutenant in the Birmingham Battalion, of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) was killed in a premature explosion whilst planting a bomb at the Coventry telephone exchange in 1974.

1974, 21 November: The Birmingham pub bombings, 21 killed and 182 injured.

1974, 18 December: Bomb planted by IRA in the run up to Christmas in one of Bristol's most popular shopping districts explodes injuring 17 people.[8]

1975, 8 August: IRA detonate a bomb in the Caterham Arms pub in Surrey, 400yds from the army barracks in Caterham. 25 injured and 8 seriously injured.[9]

1975, 27 November: IRA gunmen assassinated political activist and television personality Ross McWhirter.[10]

1975, 20 December: The Ulster Defence Association (UDA) bombed Biddy Mulligan's pub in the Kilburn area of London. Five people were injured. It said it bombed the pub because it was frequented by Irish republican sympathizers.[11]

1978, 17 December: Another bomb planted by the IRA aimed at the Christmas shoppers in Bristol takes out the department store Maggs injuring seven people.[12]

1979, 17 February: The Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) bombed two pubs frequented by Catholics in Glasgow, Scotland. Both pubs were wrecked and a number of people were wounded. It said it bombed the pubs because they were used for Irish republican fundraising.[13]

1979, 30 March: Airey Neave killed when a car bomb exploded under his car as he drove out of the Palace of Westminster car park. The Irish National Liberation Army (INLA) claimed responsibility for the killing.

and I was in the guildford pub the night before

  5. Probably not in the best of taste. But am I ever?

"President Putin has re-targeted his nuclear missiles onto the UK because of the sanctions.

I hope I'm not considered a traitor, but let's hope he doesn't find out all of our nuclear weapons are in Bradford, Rochdale, Leicester and Luton."

there where targeted on the UK when there where the USSR so do not worry hope putin understands the MAD concept.

  6. dialogue and force used along side each other only work if you have a valid long term plan employing ALL parties

afghanistan Iraq where examples of force used, and imposing our solutions on there people so long term was icis and her like

So I repeat yes we the christian west can put boots on the ground take back territory but we will not, yet again win the heart and mind of the muslims .

  7. Thanks David this is worth a look, just I'm not using a laptop I have a apple iPhone 6+ and iPad

So no USB port, got to be a way I can do this.

useing this I can turn my pc into a hotspot and my son uses's his xbox to connect to xbox live through me pc

  8. I believe what also has to be taken into account is that the troubles in the middle east among the muslims is very similar to northern Ireland there is two sects of the muslin religion who hate each other .

So a simple answer can also depend on whether there are sunni (ISIS is sunni) or Shiite (Iran)

  9. So what is Norwegian for "Bugger off"?

Why on earth would the Norwegians send messages via Face Book? Do they expect penniless, destitute refugees to be carrying computers on their backs or to have expensive "tablets"?

    Most odd.

actually the immigrants and refugees coming in to europe at the moment are from the middleclass the penniless and destitute are the ones stuck in the refugee camps with no money to pay for the journey.

so yes the ones travelling have PC and smart phones.

  10. "In both construction and operation requirements vehicle and leisure batteries are different....contrary to some of the claims made a starter battery performs poorly as a leisure battery and conversely. There is no such thing as a dual purpose battery. A vehicle starter battery is designed to provide an initial burst of power in order to start the engine. By contrast a leisure battery provides a steady flow over an extended period..

  11. Leisure batteries are not designed for stating engines if you use them to many times for this purpose the leisure batteries degrade and will not be powerful enough to turn an engine even if there a re3 of them , but there will still run lights

if it was me I would change the switch so only starter battery only starts engine

  12. Given you a greenie for this post.

It is all very well for those who propose 'going in and sorting them out' but what result EXACTLY are they hoping for, because whatever it is they are going to be disappointed. We are probably all agreed that we want the end of Daesh, but consider that what we would be putting in it's place is Bashar al Assad, a man who is comfortable with barrel bombing and gassing his own citizens, is that going to be an improvement? At the moment there are Arab states and arab soldiers trying to sort it out, they are Hezbollah supported by Iran and the Iranians themselves. On the other side of the equation we have the Saudis and Qatar supporting Daesh. Russia has rather recklessly decided to throw it's weight into the equation and it seems that a downed Russian civilian airliner may well have been the result. Can someone tell me what a couple of hundred British Squaddies are going to be able to do to make this maelstrom any better?

Probably the people to economically target to begin with would be the Saudis, more specifically the Wahhabi element of Saudi society who hold considerable influence within the country. They are the one's that Daesh look up to and admire since they both see the Shia Muslims as 'infidels' and their aim is to slaughter them (Saudis also running a sideshow in Yemen doing just that). Of course we are never going to do anything to upset the Saudis are we? since they pretty much own us (and quite a large part of America).

I would suggest that just as Wilson stopped this country being sucked into the mess that was Vietnam, Cameron's best course of action would be to prevent this country being sucked into the mess that is Syria, I don't hold out much hope for that though!

agree with you have a greenie

  13. Bummer. Such is life. If you wanna sit back because you think that's the answer, carry on.

I'm all for going in and wiping them out.

My great uncle probably said the same thing when he went with the border regt to fight the third afgan war

my grand father probably said sime thing when he went to iraq in the 1930;s

my father said the same while in egypt in the early 50s

I know I said the same in gulf one

and soldiers after me have said the same

all I can see is its got worse

British Army will steam through killing all ISIS troops in its way no problem

the problem occurs time and time again when the army turns the occupied territory to politician

We have to think and do it different, the arab states with muslim soldiers have to sort it out.

And we have to start getting tough with states who are helping ISIS ,and states who do not help there own muslim brothers with aid or shelter ie the oil rich gulf states .

And start going after the banks who move ISIS and other terrorism money

    • Greenie 3
  14. Time to send troops and air support to Syria in my view. This ain't gonna get any better.

    That is what ISIS wants

So it can say to muslim world look the christian crusaders are killing muslims and calling for a bigger jihad

  15. quote by

Commander Robert Green, Royal Navy (Retired).

Robert Green served in the Royal Navy from 1962-82. As a bombardier-navigator, he flew in Buccaneer nuclear strike aircraft with a target in Russia, and then anti-submarine helicopters equipped with nuclear depth-bombs. On promotion to Commander in 1978, he worked in the Ministry of Defence before his final appointment as Staff Officer (Intelligence) to the Commander-in-Chief Fleet during the 1982 Falklands War. He is now Co-Director of the Disarmament & Security Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand.

    quote

Furthermore, nuclear deterrence is a disingenuous doctrine, because it is militarily irrational and not credible, for reasons set out in my book Security Without Nuclear Deterrence.

    3) 'Since 1945 nuclear deterrence has prevented war and provided stability between the major powers.'

The Soviet motive in occupying Eastern Europe was to create a defensive buffer zone and ensure that Germany could never threaten them again. Soviet archives show that NATO's conventional capability and soft power were seen as far more significant than its nuclear posture.

Nuclear deterrence meant that nuclear war was avoided by luck. We have come perilously close to nuclear war on several occasions:

    • Cuban missile crisis 1962;

    • Exercise Able Archer miscalculation 1983;

    • Russian misidentification of a Norwegian meteorological research rocket 1995.

Also, it prolonged and intensified the Cold War.

As for stability, the reality is that nuclear deterrence stimulates arms racing - and some 1,500 US and Russian strategic nuclear weapons remain at dangerously high alert states, especially with the reckless nuclear posturing over Ukraine.

    4) 'The 1996 advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice did not conclude that the threat or use of nuclear weapons would be unlawful, especially when a nation's survival is at stake.'

The Court, under heavy pressure from the three NATO nuclear weapon states, did not specifically pronounce on the legal status of nuclear deterrence.

However, it determined unanimously that any threat or use of nuclear weapons must conform to international humanitarian law, and confirmed that the principles of the law of armed conflict apply to nuclear weapons.

The envisaged use of even a single 100 kiloton UK Trident warhead could never meet these requirements.

    5) 'The number of states acquiring nuclear weapons has continued to grow.'

This is a direct consequence of the P5's use of nuclear weapons as a currency of power; and their modernisation plans flout their obligation under Article 6 of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to get rid of their arsenals.

For the 184 states which have made a treaty commitment to renounce nuclear weapons, the UK's moral authority is compromised by its nuclear posture.

    6) 'There was no international impact when South Africa and Ukraine abandoned nuclear weapons.'

Neither qualified as a recognised nuclear weapon state. The UK was the third state to detonate a nuclear weapon, and is one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (known as the P5). British anti-nuclear breakout, therefore, would be a sensational game-changer.

  16. All being said no matter if a priminister is the actual person who decides whether or not to press a retaliation nuclear strike button. (I doubt that-comitee decision)

The fact is Jeremy has already shown his full deck of cards which renders the nuclear deterant worthles/pointless if he was in power.

The point being Nuclear Weapon's are peace keepers, I dont understand the logic of denouncing their importance.

    No to Jeremy.

of course nuclear weapons prevented the invasion of korea/afghanistan(USSR)/falklands/kuwait/ukraine

if any rogue state fires a nuclear weapon at the uk. usa and france are committed to respond with nuclear weapons in or defence

and if say ISIS use a nuclear weapon we should vaporise one of there cities and kill about 100,000 to 500,000 men women and children.

In the scenario of a rogue state being deterred by or nuclear weapons is laughable.

  17. Corbyn is a waste of time and a waste of votes, even his bench disagree with some of his ideas but they wont speak up because they loose their income :-/

lets be plain those MP who do not like him and are afraid of him are blairites (new labour) who believe in thatcherism.

If a gang already has the arms and explosives necessary to carry out an attack, I really can't see why it couldn't be carried out at a couple of hours notice. People congregate in numbers at numerous places in Paris every day of the week.

planning an operation of that size and complexity can not be achieved at short notice.

  18.

A Syrian passport has been found on the body of one of the attackers, AP reports, citing police sources.

French TV is carrying the same line, but it has not been independently verified by the BBC.

really this should not come as a surprise as ISIS territory is syria and iraq It would be more of a surprise if any other country's passport was found

Unless there trying to link it to the immigration issue

  19. You think it beyond the whit of any terrorist organisation to have contingency plans capable of being put into operation at very short notice!

If you think ISIS has such a strong organisation in france to mount such an attack at short notice then we should be afraid

    I do not

  20. Am I alone in wondering if there is a connection between the assassination of Jihadi John and the terrorist attack in Paris.

ISIS will claim its in direct response for killing Jihadi John but what has happened could not of been organised on such short notice maybe it was brought forward but I believe it would have happened anyway

but of course there will get more propaganda linking both together

  21. we can debate this all day because what we think is immaterial, we targeted and killed him.

what matters is how ISIS propaganda wing portraits it on the net and how many young disenchanted muslims believe them and then join there twisted jihad against us.

We need to discuss how we can help the muslim community to win the hearts and minds of the disenchanted youth and deprive ISIS of more recruits.
