Hi, I was brousing through ebay and found this! A future project for someone?

Just had a look on Google Maps Street View. The Griffin is up for sale and the Old Mill seems to be a care home! Don't know what dates the pictures are!

As noted above, the pub on the opposite side is very plastic and full of kids, but you can't have everything. Plenty of other good pubs in the area, including (apparently, because we didn't get to it) the only gas lit pub in Yorkshire!
That sounds interesting, do you have any idea of the name. I might have a look for it next time I'm at Stanley Ferry.
Thanks

Hi Anth. thank you.
I like the idea of a pub and food place that close by, dont mind a short cruise to one though whic i canr find near Fairies.
There was a few moorings available at Stanley, trouble is i am wanting the get one in spring`ish time.
There did used to be one at Castleford, just down from Fairies Hill. I think it was called The Griffin If it is still there, it was behind the Marine Engineers just down from the flood lock. I'm in the Isle of Lewis at the moment so I'm some distance from my log books! :-)

We used to moor at Fairies Hill and found it a very friendly community. Stanley Ferry always looked very full when we visited. Plastic Pub is very handy though.

The Building Centre is hosting a discussion on the future of design regarding canals. It may be interesting to anyone who is close enough to attend.

I had almost exactly the same symptoms on our boat. It turned out to be swarf left in the tank when it was built being sucked into the fuel line. When the engine was stopped the flow through the fuel lines stopped and the engine would run fine again on start up, untill the next bit of swarf was sucked up.

My condolences at this terrible time. I've never met either of you but I'll be sure to raise a glass on the 8th

It's just behind the first blue boat on the other side of the sanitary block. just opposite where the footpath goes off into the trees (there is a white info board opposite the pump out box)

I believe that the self pump out is in a separate box on the edge of the canal on the other side of the facilities block from the swing bridge.

The Trinc, as she is fondly known by the locals of Hartlepool, is now part of the Royal Naval Museum, Hartlepool.

In a language as rich in homophones as English, it's important that a writer uses the correct word to avoid misunderstandings. However...
I've had a reply from SMBC (Paul Hartley) who tells me that Scheduled Monument Consent is a matter for English Heritage Northwest:
https://historicengland.org.uk/advice/planning/consents/smc/is
and is not dealt with by the LPA. THat's not what the SMBC web site says, but never mind.
I can't find a "search planning applications" facility on the EH site, but perhaps others have more patience!
ETA: the link worked for me but now it won't. The historicengland.org.uk bit works, though.
I think it's because when you clink on the link it puts http:// at the front of the address, also the colon disappears from the https://

You know precisely what I am talking about so do not talk such utter rubbish. Talk about splitting hairs. It's exactly people like you that will not allow things to become amicable on the canals nor on the roads. I do realise that cyclists pay taxes like everyone else. They do not pay road tax and neither do they, generally, pay for insurance so if they hit me and damage my vehicle or kill me whjen they are riding on the pavement then either me or my family have to pay for that ourselves.
I'm not sure that anybody does these days. I pay Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) for my car and as far as I know it is not ring fenced to pay for roads

I may have asked this before but why do I have the honour of being specified as having '0 warning points' when others do not?
I think it's because you can only see your own warning points. I can see mine on this post but no others in the thread.

By not pitching in and leaving the dirty work to (what seems like) the rest of the world smacks of appeasement, ghost of Neville Chsmberlain looms large.
Phil (wearing flack jacket)
There is an opinion that the much maligned Neville Chamberlin bought this country time to build up its armed forces to such an extent that it was able to win the Battle of Britain. If we had gone to war instead of his 'Peace for our time' we would not have had the Hurricanes and Spitfires to defeat the Luftwaffe. there is an opposing view that his Govt. was responsible for the lack of investment in the armed forces that got us in that situation in the first place!

Might it be an option to get a post box fitted at the end of the drive so the postman can deliver there instead of coming down the drive?

According to CART Knostrop and Leeds lock have been closed because of high river levels,

Talking of flight crew, I've just seen the Vulcan Bomber go overhead. Absolutely stunning!
It is stunning to see, isn't it. Sadly this will be its last season flying so make the most of it!

There are some very remote very nice 'abandoned' LTM's on the A&C just around the corner from Woodnoock Lock which takes the A&C off the River Aire.
I have no idea what condition the pontoons are in mind but its seems a waste of a nice spot to me.
These moorings are now in use and managed by the nearby Fairies Hill Moorings

I subscribe to the stoppage emails for the A&CN.
I have not had one yet.
They have improved their weekend service and normally issue them nowadays.
Thanks for that,
I'm subscribed to the stoppage emails as well but I was unaware that they now always issue them at weekends
Thanks
