  1. Hi everyone,

now this may not be everybody's cup of tea but as our boat build seems to be taking forever, I have come across this book to keep me amused and to give me the perfect excuse to go to the canalside....

It's the boaters equivalent to trainspotting.... it's a book that contains all the registration numbers of the Boats of UK Inland Waterways..... Now by no means am I a "trainspotter" but this book has brought so much fun so far, it's so interesting marking off the boats that I have seen although I doubt I will ever see all 36,000 plus of them!

Just thought I would mention it, in case there are any of you out there that this may be of interest to? :-D

ETA.. for those who may be interested, its produced by ST Publications and available through their website - stpublications.co.uk

  2. Awww I'm so glad to hear you had a fab time and it all went well, I bet you can't wait to go out on her again. Look forward to seeing some pics when you get chance!

I keep reading posts like this and getting terribly frustrated that I have another 3-and-a-bit weeks to go before I fetch my boat home.

Me too, but got a few more weeks than you :banghead: . So frustrating but I'm sure it will be worth the wait

  3. Congratulations,I bet you cant wait! Hope you have many a happy time on her....

Ours is mid-build, the shell is finished, we are just waiting for them to fit-out etc. Time seems to be dragging,it's so exciting and so frustrating at the same time IYKWIM. Ah well, I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end.

Happy cruising and roll on Wednesday

  4.

ps. If you cannot get everything in a 'transit' sized van, you have to much stuff.

oops.... I'll get my coat

Charge anything? They're not borrowing my beloved Cheeky, full stop, end of, not ever!

I don't mind guests, and I'm really looking forward to that, but nothing would persuade me to hand over the keys to my pride and joy! :o

    My sentiments exactly ;)

  5. Aww, thank you. My lounge looks like a small branch of British Home Stores. All my things are in bags, raring to go...

Trouble is, the longer I have to wait, the more shopping time there is...

Yep, we have the small bedroom full of boxes of stuff and it has now overspilled downstairs into the living room :banghead: The leather recliner chairs have come in huge boxes so we didn't bother to attempt to find room upstairs, they just got "parked" in the living room, but the boxes are breeding

I'm like you, the longer it has gone on, the more stuff I am buying... I now have double on quite a few things as I have seen nicer things since I bought the 1st lot... I know it won't all go on the boat but it has got to be sorted through just before the big day :help:

Anyway, good luck and look forward to seeing some pics of your boat once you're finally settled in

  6. I can fully understand how you feel, we are in a similar postition at the moment... our newbuild shell is finished and waiting to be moved to be fitted out. It's been finished over 3 weeks now and we are still waiting. I know it's normal procedure in the boating world and things don't move fast but when you're sooooo excited and like you, want to do the girly thing and put all my nice new stuff in it, it's sooo frustrating :banghead: . On the plus side, at least you are fotunate to be the proud owners of a boat and only now have to wait 3 weeks, which isn't too long when you think how long some other people are waiting ;)

Just try to keep yourself busy ( I know easier said than done) and hopefully the next few weeks will pass quite quickly for you

  7. This makes interesting reading as I have started to look around for Insurance quotes ready for our boat's arrival in a couple of months. Nobody has mentioned Towergate yet? I obtained a very reasonable quote from them over the phone, which incidentally was far lower than their online quote  . Does anybody have any good or bad experiences with them?

    TIA

  8. What do you want to provide additional power for? How many things do you want to use at once? The maximum power demand of all the things you want to use at once will set the smallest size of generator you need- and you will need to allow fore some start-up surge.

Petrol gennies are cheaper and lighter than diesel, but more expensive to run. Diesels are generally noisy unless built-in and well cocooned. Diesel as a fuel is much lower fire risk than petrol and you probably already have a tank. You also have an LPG tank, probaly and some petrol genberators can be converted to run on LPG.

Honda generators have a good reputation and the EU10i and 20i seem to be well liked- but they are not the cheapest.

Thank you for your quick reply. We would be looking maybe to run say the washing m/c, or the laptop as an extra? Would it be something around the 3kw mark? Thanks again

Thank you, this is extremely useful and will be passed on to HWMBO for bedtime reading

  9. Hi all

Another question that I hope some of you can help with please. We are looking into acquiring a generator and wondered what is the best size ie as in power output? As we may not always have a shoreline, this would be used to help provide additional power and to give the boat's batteries a boost save us running the engine up? What sort of output should we be looking at and what are your thoughts on diesel vs petrol.Any particular brands to avoid or go for?

    Many thanks in advance.

  10. Firstly, thank you all for you replies. I hadn't realised I was opening a can of worms..........

We have took heed of many good points and will discuss further. We are certain that we do need a dinette as we need the spare double bed. We also will be using the table a lot as we do at home for dining, computing etc. We will be having 2 loose recliner chairs in the saloon so we are alright when there is just the 2 of us. Our opinion of an L-shape is that it would give a more open aspect to the saloon and also double up as spare saloon seating for guests. Our main concern was the comfort aspect versus a pullman? Listening to your experiences, it seems that if we ensure that the seating is sloping back then this will ensure a little extra comfort?

Thank you all once again x
