  1. Hello there, can anyone tell me the best way of going about finding a mooring in west Yorkshire? I've looked on Waterscape and there seem to be very few BW ones. Ideally I'd like to find one on the Rochdale canal

You could try here , near to Hebden Bridge Railway Station on the Rochdale Canal .

    Mayroyd Moorings

    telephone: 01422 843362 -

Mayroyd Moorings, Hebden Bridge. HX7 8NU

  2. It's now The Bridgewatwr Canal Company Ltd, still owned by Peel. My belief is that there aren't any official residential moorings on the Bridgewater but people do reside on boats at various locations.

    You could try emailing mwebb@peel.co.uk

I believe he has info on all moorings on the Bridgewater , availability , price etc .

  3. Okeydokes, just thinking up some tent related plans for this year, and like last year, during the annual Rhythm & Blues festival here in Colne (too noisy for me!!!), I want to go camping along the canal...

Just a thought howzabout the Rochdale ? Get the Bus into Burnley Catch a 589 (Rochdale) and either get of

in Tod or go throught to Littleborough . Get on the Canal at Littleborough Square and start walking upto Summit

some pleasant places to camp . Depending on how long you have , you can walk through to Hebden Bridge

it used to take me three hours from my home at Summit but a pleasant few days can be had . Two Pubs near to the canal

at Summit ( The Sportsman used to be called The Dog and The Summit ) Warland (Bird i'thand) a bit like a Blackpool

Chippy but to some peoples liking . Walsden three pubs close to the canal . Then to the otherside of Tod , pleasant places to put a Tent up . Then to Hebden Bridge . Catch a 592 back to Burnley and thence Home .

  4. Just spotted this on the front of the "Pendle Express", looks like someone pushed a stolen ford escort van into the L&L just below the lock by bridge 143, and was under the M65 bridge, thankfully no-one had been killed or drowned in the incident as the van had been pushed from the adjacent car park and into the water...

Obviously not the only thing found in the L & L

  5. I have one was never asked for proof of residence just used a friends address for them to send it to Brenda

I would be very careful what address you use . If you use an address which is only occupied by a

single person and they are claiming the 25% discount , and the council check on the Community

Tax Register (whatever its called) The house holder could find that they will have to pay the

fully Tax plus some very uncomfortable questions relating to a false claim .

  6. This topic must have come up a dozen times or more during the life of the forum, I am always surprised at the diversity of members we have, I recall recommending the Cheshire Cheese at Wheelock, because it is a friendly pub with good beer, food and the landlord shows a certain contempt for official closing times, someone else said it was scruffy and had a group of beerie blokes hanging around the bar.

The Commercial just across the Road from the Cheshire Cheese is another excellent Pub . Marvelous Bar plus a games room with a Full Size Snooker Table . Yet crew of a boat who in conversation with me at Wheelock stated that they thought the Pub was "Seedy" obvious Chicken in the Basket and 1/2

of John Smiths Smooth , set.

  7. I plan to go from Stourport to Worcester as part of a trip in a couple of weeks.

I tried th EA site but to no avail. Can I buy a temporary licence at Stourport or do I need to apply in advance?

    What is the approximate cost?

    Thanks.

River Severn is BW will be covered by your Hire Company . EA Licence required If you travel

off the Severn onto the Avon .

  8. Having recently retired and spending more time on the boat thinking about choosing a decent marina in the west lancs area heard about the two in rufford and the new proposed one in scarisbrick, anybody any feedback on the afore mentioned?

St Mary's Marina Rufford . All the facilities , good staff , Railway Station close by . Excellent pub Hesketh Arms just around the corner . Cost for 57 footer £1800 pa . I like it .

  9. And you may also endear yourselves better to the locals if you all stop responding to everything that's said with the expression "Aawww yeeahh?" :D

And those dreadfully naff Shell Suits in Green and Gold and always flying the Union Flag .

Cant these colonial types design a flag of their own ? ;)
