    How do I stop this noise? There's a mute button in the address bar of the browser but really I want it gone forever.

    I was trying to point out to the OP that Dulux make a number of different paint types under the Weathershield banner and not all of them are suitable for his purpose. For instance the non-drip gloss cannot be applied with a roller or over-spread with a brush or it will run and sag. There are also Weathershield smooth and textured masonry paints - both totally unsuitable for painting steel.

    The point I was making (and I was trying to be helpful) was that just because it says Dulux Weathershield on the tin it doesn't automatically mean it's suitable for the extremes of weather and temperature that a boat is exposed to.

  4. I've got no useful advice to give I'm afraid, because I've never really understood the concept of wet rooms.

    It seems to me that its far better to confine all surplus water to a shower cubicle and then step out onto a dry bath mat and use a bath towel without any danger of it picking up water by dragging on the floor. 

    Perhaps somebody can help to nudge this old dinosaur into the 21st century by explaining why I'm wrong.

  5. I can sympathise having just renewed the exhaust on Falcon. I had some badly seized joints to free and followed the advice I found on a here.

    That advice was to wrap the joints in diesel-soaked rag for 24 hrs ( all wrapped in cling film) and then use some ​serious ​heat and 2 pairs of stilsons to free them off. My exhaust was threaded into a skin fitting in the side of the boat and was just unscrewed. However, you don't seem to have that option where the exhaust exits through the tank. If this section of pipe seems sound you could just leave it in situ and renew the rest of the system.

  6. Well. After a series of mishaps I was faced with a broken glass on my Squirrel and a firelighter and wood burning away on my wool mat ( covering my nylon carpet tiles ) with flames licking up the wall.

     

    When I couldn't put out the flames with the coal shovel I reached over and used my 1kg powder extinguisher to put those flames out as well as the fire so I could replace the glass with a spare and restart the fire.

     

    The front of the boat is covered with blueish powder but apart from that and a singed mat all is ok.

     

    I can report that 1kg is enough to extinguish a Squirrel ( enough to dispose of contents of the fire in the ash bin)

     

    Can I suggest you check that your extinguisher is near to hand by the fire?

    Thanks for the timely reminder and glad all is now well. My BSS requires that I have 3 extinguishers, 1 by the squirrel, 1 by the cooker and 1 in the engine room. I also have a fire blanket in the kitchen in case of a pan fire.

    The moisture may be finding its way into the trunking, but it's not coming from the trunking. How could that be?

     

    Edit: Just checked - there is no moisture inside the trunking.

    I did say it was a long shot. Just trying to be of help. Glad you've solved the problem.

  8. A long shot, but that moisture looks as if it could be coming from the trunking. The worst of the dampness seems to be coming from an area just below where the trunking sags down slightly as shown in the second picture. This would create a sump where water could collect. Is there any possibility that water is finding its way into the trunking?

    I say this everytime insurance questions come up. DO THEY PAY OUT saving sixty quid for instance is total crap if the company quibble in the event of any claim. 60 quid is absolutely peanuts when you consider boating costs. I have been with my insurers for over twenty years and never shop round the reason is I know they pay out as my bro in law had a claim with them no quibble in his first year. I dont know if they are expensive and cannot remember how much I pay ( due in march ) but I aint going anywhere.

  10. It seems to me that the reason that the tank was full when you bought the boat may be because it couldn't be emptied.

    Either the hose from the tank or pick-up pipe could be blocked or perhaps the hose is split or detached, in which case there would be no vacuum to draw out the waste. This may be the reason that your recent pump-out failed to empty the tank.

  11. Our microwave started arcing and flashing a few weeks ago.

    Son-in-law : "Just get a new one".

    Son: "Just buy a new one. They're really cheap these days".

    So I sent for a silica panel to make a new wave-guide cover, (£1.99 including free postage). I cut out a new cover and fitted it.

    The microwave now works perfectly.

    Son-in law: " I'd just have got a new one"

    Son: "I don't know why you bothered".

    Generation gap?
