Holiday Part 1

The aim was to cruise from Kingfisher Marina and go up the Aylesbury Arm to Aylesbury then return. All was planned, with overnight stops near good pubs, shopping places identified, even pump out locations noted. We set off on Friday June 25th planning to arrive at Aylesbury on Monday. What we had not planned for was the unusual British summer. I had imagined the normal weather would prevail and had factored in a certain number of lock/miles per day. But with temperatures getting into the low 30's, my poor old crew was exhausted with all the lock work and mutinied. Maresworth Junction was reached and she said "No more!" SWMBO said she was on holiday and not an Olympic training session!

So we winded at Maresworth Junction and had a slow gentle return to Kingfisher.

On the outward voyage we had dinner at the Cross Keys pub in Great Woolstone. Some things went wrong with the meal but were soon put right along with a discount. We decided to visit again on the way back, and we can recommend their Fish and Chip night on Thursday. I have never tasted better Fish nor Chips. Perfection.

We also stopped at Willowbridge Marina. What nice helpful people they are. We had aelf service pump out, which I thought would be a bit niffy. However, it allowed us to give the tank a really good suck out so another recommendation.

Coming back through Milton Keynes, we approached a bridge. Coming the other way was one of those old "working boats" converted to have a cabin, with sheets over, crewed by 2 males and 1 female in their arrogant 30's. Rightfully believing I was nearer the bridge, I wrongly assumed they would slow down to allow me to pass through first. No way, the engine was cranked up to what sounded like full power and they charged ahead. Unfortunately, even though I applied full speed astern, they did not, nor did they deviate one inch and a collision ensued. No apology, they just laughed, insulted me and continued.

Arse holes. (Sorry).

Anyway, I cooked duck in cider for dinner one night, and various other dishes. But not again, I prefer crispy duck.

10th July was the Marina BBQ at Kingfisher. Food and band provided, bring your own drink. We all had a great time, food, music and company was great. The downside was discovering the alternator belt tensioner clamping bolt screwed into an aluminium casting, which was almost now devoid of a thread. Bugger.

I have a man coming to sort it soon.
