Power problems

Well, the fault with the Marina power supply has been identified and fixed, to a degree. It was a cable joint with water leaking into it across the other side. So we no longer get power cuts. But still the supply power is not up to running my very small microwave or my 1.2 Kw vacuum without blowing the trip. So the 6 amps supply must only be a 5 amp or less in reality. I am fed up with having to disconnect shore power, start the engine and run the inverter just for a chance to use the vacuum or microwave. There must be a solution.

We collected the repaired Rutland wind generator from Marlec eventually. They had not really listened to when I wanted to collect it, and had not even started to repair it on the day I thought we had agreed to have it ready by. So two weeks later it was ready. I re-installed it on the mast, and found some bolts to hold the mast vertical. I had reconnected the wires incorrectly at the top of the mast, reversed polarity, but rather than take the thing down, remove the Genny again and switch them over, I just swapped the wiring on the socket at the mast base. OK, not good practise since the red wire is now neg and the black pos, but I know it is there. Anyway, when ever you want some wind there is no, so we could not actually get any output into the batteries. There is always a strong cross-wind when coming into the pontoon finger making it difficult to manoeuvre without the paint getting scratched, but never any when you want to test your generator. Luckily it is Crick Boat Show this weekend so it is bound to be windy and rainy so I will stick it up again and see how much she produces!

My pension is getting sorted, SWMBO's is in payment now, so we are getting nearer to the goal of living aboard. I do not like to call it a "dream" because dreams stop when you wake up and are usually different to reality. So I am calling our plans "a significant life style change".
