Maxwell seems to be able to travel backwards in time.

NB Rhiannon is more of a puzzle. It is the first quantum boat we have encountered. It exists in two places at the same time and is capable of teleportation

In other news, things are looking complicated at the wooden spoon end of the table

Will the results be made public before the MEP ones?

Just now, Dr Bob said:

Anyone seen our duck?

We've not heard from him for 48hrs and we are now totally lost with him not on the boat (ie not a clue where we are).

He was at the pub earlier. Probably drunk in a gutter by now.

So perhaps the question should be "has anyone seen you?" :giggles:

Well we spent an inordinate amount of time late Saturday 'cause we got lost, in Ma Pardoes. Without the duck it was impossible to know which way to go when we got back to the boat, so we had a sleep and woke up late morning. We thought the duck may have returned to Ma Pardoes to meet us but he wasn't there. We waited a while and got confused again. Mrs Bob really liked the Black Country Gin. Number 3 was also a good pint.

We've now just got back to the boat. Did Mrs May win? Is the duck coming home?

Starting to wake up, after catching up on sleep a bit.

Our Saturday was a bit tedious mainly consisting of the W&E and the Walsall (twice).  We stopped “overnight”, ie 22:40 to 03:50 at Longwood.  Sunday was very enjoyable despite a bit of rain, and some very satisfying locking, 38 on Sunday morning I think.

Great to see so many boats in the centre of Birmingham, 4 abreast on the Oozells St Loop, and 2 abreast on the mainline.  Wish I had a pound for every photo taken on us on Sunday afternoon.

Still awaiting the results, but no doubt the collective brain cells a working on the next boat!

Yep once again thanks to Sue and Richard for organising, and thanks to everyone for being such a nice bunch! See you all next year

Thanks for emergency fuse supply to keep the power flowing to the nerve-centre.

Indeed - massive thanks to Richard, Sue and their army of helpers, tea makers and pot washers for making it all happen.

It has been an amazing weekend, we thoroughly enjoyed every bit but I have to admit that starting out as  newbies thinking we would take away some strategy and tips from our experienced crew to come back next year with and then finding that we don't actually have a clue what we could have or should have done differently/better to have ranked higher is mystifying! I do feel rather badly that we might have let the guys down in some way because they put so much effort in and were absolutely knackered at the end. All I can think is that we need to stretch the boat and cram in another 12 people - but we really could not have worked locks any faster than we did and did not have to wait at any locks so if we had extra crew some of them would have been slacking ?

Our 24 hours saw us covering 60 miles and 51 locks. In the spirit of The Challenge - to encourage use of the Birmingham Canals - we feel we did that justice and despite our low ranking we don't feel we could have tried any harder. I certainly expect our lock miles for the challenge will differ than significantly from many of the other participants.

Up on our home canal, The Chesterfield, we also want to encourage more boats to visit. In rising to the Challenge set by the BCNS we covered 133 miles and 50 locks. We did that over 6 days. around 67 of those miles are on rivers meaning it is a relaxing trip watching the scenery pass you by and having lock keepers pressing buttons to operate locks for you. It was a very enjoyable trip.

I would imagine there are not too many of the boats that took part in the BCN Challenge that would not be very capable of making that trip. Once they have arrived on The Chesterfield Canal they will enjoy boating on what is suggested to be one of the most beautiful canals in the country. If you think The Llangollen is beautiful but wish it were not so busy then you will fall in love with The Chesterfield - a stunning canal running through magnificent countryside where, on a really busy day you might see two other boats moving.

So what's stopping you folks?
