Trent Aegir Predictions

You wouldn’t want to be on the Trent below Gainsborogh in a narrowboat when there is  an Aegir. We went down the Trent  in the summer and expected to meet a wall of water somewhere up from Keadby. But it was just a ripple. Almost disappointing .Up at West Stockwith / Gainsborough I  understand  there was a 1 metre wave.

The aegir is not precisely predictable as it is affected by weather and pressure as are the tide times on the river. Low atmospheric pressure an an easterly wind with a big spring tide will produce the biggest wave.
