Roxylass
Going to fit a couple of new rocker cover gaskets tomorrow do I need gasket sealer or will tightening the nuts down be seal enough
alan_fincher
It would be unusual to put any sealant in, I think. However, it does seem quite hard ti get them to a point where there is no leakage at all. (Or at least it seems quite hard on both my H series engines). I'd say the gaskets are fairly reusable f not sealed, but many sealants would probably make it hard to reuse them if the covers had to come off for any reason. X Alan W
If you wanted "belt & braces"you could seal the gaskets to the cyl head with some thing like Hylomar & leave the rocker cover side with a very light grease smear future removal should leave the gasket intact on the head The trinity house Jk/s lighthouse generators were so treated
Woottonlaser
I have had good results by using heldite jointing compound fastening gasket into the rocker cover only comes on and off well and doesn't particularly leak oil assuming a good quality gasket is used I like the dark grey power gasket type personally Edited December 26, 2018 by Woottonlaser
David Schweizer
After receiving some advice from a marine engineer, I always used high melting point grease and never suffered any leakage.
bizzard
Grease is good. The covers are solid castings and won't warp tightening the nuts. We always used grease on copper asbestos and the thin steel head gaskets that certain Ford and other engines used.
