No.

In practice, you would probably get away with it, but it would be illegal.

If it is an 'open' dinghy, have no gas on board and just an outboard engine with a portable tank ( or no engine or fuel at all)  then you don't need a BSSC, if you have a cuddy / cabin with a door, then you do also need a BSSC in addition to your licence and 3rd party (minimum) insurance

BSSC = Boats safety Scheme Certificate.

(The same as an MOT on a car)

Thanks Alan, here is my boat,it came with a small electric outboard, just need a couple of oars now ?

Ok - all you need then is insurance and a licence.

You DO NOT need an 'MOT' (BSSC)

Tell C&RT that it is electric powered and you get 25% discount off the licence fee.

Thanks again Alan,I will call into Farndon marina and ask at their shop for the insurance I need to get too.

You could always try Burton Waters (nearer Lincoln)

Spend half-an-hour on line and try these first. (unless you value the Dinghy highly just go for 3rd party which is all you legally need, and, will be much cheaper)

Remember not all waters are CRT and if you are carting it hear there and everywhere you will need to check. The Norfolk Broads, River Wey, Basingstoke Canal and most lakes to name a few.

True, though CRT do have the great majority of the canals of England and Wales, plus a few bits of rivers. Some other examples nearer to Lincoln:

The River Nene ... Environment Agency

The Middle Levels ... Middle Level Commissioners

In fact I think the latter are a bit of a rarity in that they don't require a licence, or has that changed with the new bill that's recently gone through Parliament?

If you have in fact had and sunk two previous boats you may feel that only having 3rd party insurance is a false economy for you? Or you may feel that some combination of luck and/or having learnt from past mistakes will mean you never sink another. Anyway, good luck and I hope you enjoy many happy times afloat.

You might need  the special Cart key too to work certain things like electric locks and bridges, but mainly to enter sanitary stations to empty or go to the bog. A peg for the nose is essential for that mission.  Best to take your own toilet roll too.

I never leave home without it Sam.Come to think of it I have never been asked to produce one in all the years I have been buying them ?

I wouldn't risk not having one. I used to work in a magistrates' court and the fines and costs imposed on those without rod licences were very substantial. There were lots of cases being brought too!

I used to have some success with guddling trout for the pot, but once,  having left the trout under a fern, I was kind of outed by my lab when she went back for it, and carried it softly in her mouth.  Fortunately the keeper was up on the moors. :)

Is 'Guddling' the method of catching Fish also known as ''Tickling'?
