YeY - 10 posts, the forum is now you oyster. :D

What the hell does that even mean why would the world be your oyster anyway

Others might say the world is your lobster and some cruel people would laugh at them which is daft really, because oyster, lobster, neither of them make any sense.

I prefer Arthur Daly's corruption of it.  "Terry my son, from now on the world is your lobster."

Perhaps I won't bother after all. I'm a survival specialist and mountaineer when I'm not cruising the canals so pretty able to look after myself physically, but if I'm being sniped unduly with words, not sure how able I am really.

I would think it's  to stop spammers, and this has been found to be a sort of "filter" to encourage boating related posts,  and discourage casual callers with a primary interest in the love life of African budgerigars.

I don't make the rules, I just find this forum is interesting, and generally welcoming,  lots of very experienced folks who can answer practically any inland water related question.

The virtual pub is "off topic"

... and lots of threads go "off topic", its great fun.

There was a mega popular telly program called "Minder" in the 70s. Arthur Daley was a car dealer with an amusing personality without realising it. Well worth a watch.

Yes, a car dealer who sells cars. GURLS, hopeless :giggles:

Arthur was always getting into quite serious scrapes and Terry was his 'minder', officially his employee to help with the cars but really there to hit people and defend his boss.

George Cole starred as Arthur Daley in Minder for 15 years
Arthur Daley CREDIT: REX FEATURE

 The world is your lobster
"He's an inverterbrate liar"; "He must be on them stair rods" (steroids); "What's French for en-suite facilities?"; "Stand on me";   All were memorable Arthur Daleyisms. But the best was "the world is your lobster", which Arthur says to his minder, Terry McCann, played by Dennis Waterman. Cole has regularly paid tribute to the Minder scriptwriters, especially the late Leon Griffiths (who was named after Leon Trotsky by his staunchly communist mother). But the lobster remark was coined by Cole, as he recalled: "My son heard someone say it in a pub and he told me – I took out my wallet and gave him £25 and bought the line off him. I sat on it for about two years and suddenly we had a boxing episode. I went round to see Terry after the fight and he was covered in blood and moaning. And I said, ad libbing, "Don't you worry my son, from now on the world is your lobster."
