Moving a Boat

Well, at the time I was suffering with pluresy plus dealing with a personal family matter.

It also looks like the ebay user that sold me the boat is now selling the outboard motor which was meant to come with the boat

I am sorry to read that you have had a problem with your boat purchase, but it is very difficult to avoid pointing out the dangers of buying anything of value such as a boat on Ebay, especially so when, I presume, cash was handed over before sighting the boat. I presume that you have raised the issue with Ebay?

i sympathise with the fact that you were ill and had additional problems, but please remember if there is a next time, that if it looks like a bargain it quite often is not.

Thanks for pointing out these hazards Howard, this boat has been the 4th boat I have bought so I'm not a noob at this.

Ebay has been notified, along with the harbour master, I have also emailed the seller asking where the systems are.

I was hoping to get it chartered out in the season and hopefully make some cash...

So much for that idea.

Sorry, I hadn't realised that you are an old hand at buying boats from Ebay, but personally, I would never buy a boat, sight unseen, from an auction sight, especially seeing that the intention is to put it into the yacht charter market. With your experience so far, I suppose that you decided not to have a survey prior to purchase, but surely with a boat that is going to enter the commercial market, being eventually  chartered out to the public,  it would give you peace of mind to satisfy yourself that the boat will live up to your expectations.

Good luck with your venture.

not sure what the hell I'm going to do now.

I don't think you will get much help from ebay as they have a policy of not covering refunds and their 'Vehicle Purchase Protection' scheme and the 'Money Back Guarantee' do not apply to motor vehicles (including boats) in the UK.

The schemes are applied in the USA, but apparently are not legal in the UK.

Assuming you paid by Paypal you can try and get a refund from them as it was 'not as described' but it is not an easy process ( fine with something small like a sleeping bag, but doesn't seem to work on things like cars)

Presumably you would need a full 'commercial' survey and safety checks after you had fitted it out to get the MCA coding as a charter boat.

What category rating will you be applying for ?

My boat is Category 0 (unrestricted - use anywhere and any distance from safe haven)

Good luck

carlt, not sure what the hell I'm going to do now.

Well first of all fight like crazy to get your money back.

When that's failed assess your options and decide whether you want to keep the boat and get it seaworthy again or cut your losses and try to recoup some of the lost money.

If you decide to keep it then I'd look at moving it by road or chartering a tow to get it nearer to you so you can work on it at your leisure.

I wish I could help but my boat's in salcombe heading the other way.

Alan, I bought it as a fully functioning boat, it didn't need that much doing...

Sounds like it should have been a good-buy (was it already coded for charter ?)

There must be some action you can take have you spoken with Citizens Advice ?

Called in there last Summer - they put us on a visitors mooring and it was like being on the central reservation on the M1

I'm on a pontoon on The Bag so it's pretty peaceful.

Ridiculously expensive though.

We were only in for one night.

It didn't seem particularly expensive £30-£40 per night seems to be the going rate.

I think we paid £38 a night at Plymouth (Mayflower Marina) and they moored us next to the multi-million pound Princess yachts awaiting sea-trails.

No, keel hauled

My friends I stand before you
To tell a truth most dire
There lurks a traitor in our midst
Who hath invoked the captain's ire
He don't deserve no mercy
We ought to shoot him with a gun
But I am not an evil man
So first let's have a little fun
We'll tie that scoundrel to a rope
And throw him overboard
Drag him underneath the ship
A terrifying deadly trip

[CHORUS]
Keelhaul, that filthy landlubber
Send him down to the depths below
Make that b****** walk the plank
with a bottle of rum and a yo ho ho
[/CHORUS]
(2x)

I will not say what he has done
His sins are far to grave to tell
It's not my place to judge a man
But for them he will burn in hell
The sharks will dine up on his flesh
And Davy Jones will have his soul
Take his money and his hat
He won't need them where he's gonna go
But first lets tie him to a rope
And throw him overboard
Drag him underneath the ship
A terrifying deadly trip

[CHORUS](2x)

We'll tie that scoundrel to a rope
And throw him overboard
Drag him underneath the ship
A terrifying deadly trip

[CHORUS](2x)

You would have to get CRT to do a bit of dredging before you could keelhaul the filthy landlubber on a canal. ?
