There is good reason why lots of things should be done in well ventilated areas.

And why flues are used to exhaust gases,

And why ventilators are required to allow the intake of air ie oxygen.

You are assuming all boats have a large enough cabin volume to mean that few risks are associated with using a gas stove to heat a cabin, This is not so.

Yes some Sailing Boats have Tiny Cabins and Limited Vents .When a Boat can Heel over at 30 Degrees Large Apertures are less than Practical.

My life partner would chew a feather if waved about and he would probably eat a whole chicken. (Easy)

Especially if I let him off the lead.  (Good Dog) lol?

But not relevant to canal boats which require a BSS, part of which entails ventilation calculations...

Which is surely more relevant in this forum?

Which after all of the measurements results in an 'advisory' which is not enforceable - you could have no ventilation and still be awarded a BSS "Pass".

Indeed, but at least you would have a piece of paper which proves thatyou’re an idiot as opposed to leaving you only wondering if you are ;)

The principle remains.

Ventilation is required to replace oxygen consumed by burning fuels.

CO is a silent killer, again, ventilation.

Clean air in, dirty [exhaust] out.

I do not understand why you people think that narrowboats are "special" in that regard. There are people on canals who are in small boats, cabin cruisers, they may use all sorts of "stoves"

My CO monitor in the sitting room is slightly higher than it maybe should be, it's just above head hight. MtB will know but I don't think you're meant to have them lower than where you head might be. I don't think CO is heavier than air in that it would sink to the floor and accumulate there first. But there's an awful lot of assumptions in all that.

Yeah - but you called him MUG. :giggles:

Many a true word ......
