Rustys rice.

Chop onion and garlic

Heat a little oil in a pan and add onion and garlic.

Open a window

Meanwhile boil some water in kettle.

Add 1 cup of rice to pan and stir around for a bit.

Add stock cube and a bit of salt to cup.

Measure  1.5 cups of boiling water, add to saucpan.

Stir about a bit.

Add lid, bring to boil, and reduce to low simmer.

Wait 20 minutes (can stir half way through if you like).

Too high and it will stick. No water to drain. Soak rice before hand to remove starch if you can be arsed.

1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of water.

Fixed that for you Rusty!

Really?

Are you a veggiesaurus?

Oh no not even slightly. But because of my gluten free needs I had to find alternatives to a lot of things, you'd be surprised what all has gluten in it. Chips for example - Chips FFS why do chips need to have glutenous stuff added to them. ? Came across this miso stuff and loved it.

I boil rice a lot and that really gets everything metal wet.

That, I suspect is where most of your condensation is coming from.Plenty of ventilation as others have said will be most helpful. If you can heat the back of your boat too, that will help.

Warm moist air drifting into back cold area of your boat will condense onto hard surfaces,

(I might be a bit random not slept for two days)

Have a trip up the Huddersfield Shallow Narrow Canal, and do a dozen or so locks. Some of the lock gear is as stiff as old boots.

You will have no trouble sleeping!

WotEver’s guide to rice cooking: 1 cup of basmati rice to 2 cups of water. Boil gently with the lid on for just 12 mins and then let it sit for 10 mins. Do not lift the lid, do not stir until the 22 mins is up. Always fluffy, never sticks.

Basmati yes. Two cups no. Boil no. Very gently simmer yes.

In the interests of combating steam, there is an alternative,  add 1 rice to 1.5 water, plus salt and water, put lid on, bring to boil, turn off gas, put thick towel on saucepan lid or put pot in a " Wonderbag " or similar. Wait 18 mins. Al dente.

I went in a Aldi once.

It was HORRID. Full of boater-type people ?

That's just not true. I've never seen you, or any other man in a boiler suit in Aldi. ?

Choose steel, choose insulation, choose spray foam, choose a big fracking dehumidifier. Choose brass mushrooms, choose to open them. Choose double glazing, triple glazing, no windows.  Choose ventilation, choose vents, opening windows, ecofans, soid fuel heating.choose portholes and insulated houdini hatches.

Choose to use less gas, choose solid fuel cooking, no showering, choose pipe insulation, choose external exhaust breathing apparatus. Choose to dry clothes outside, choose no clothes.

Choose microwave ready meals and cold drinks.

Choose to live somewhere warmer over winter yet still call yourself a full time liveaboard boater.

Choose an inside swimming pool.

Choose not to live on a boat.

Live in a house.

I chose not to live in a house, i chose something else.

Two cups yes. Boil gently yes. Perfect every time yes. Been doing it like that for over 40 years and it’s always perfect.

Use 2 water instead of 1.5 in the above method and it won’t be as al dente.

What's the difference between simmer and 'boil gently'?

Simmer is a very occasional ‘blurp’. Boil gently is self-explanatory...

I'm not sure you realise, but there are at least TWO Aldis...

I'm fairly sure a thermometer would reveal both conditions to be 100c.

I suspect you’re correct. The important point is that it mustn’t boil vigorously or the grains break up.

1] That's interesting

2] depends on the fluid: brake  / caramel / Duckhams ............. all different.

Salt always alters things.

Been doing it 40 years too. Write your own recipe. Call it WotEvers guide to rice cooking. Leave mine alone. Thankyou :)
