To an extent I'd agree - but I can't imagine a Britain devoid of blues, rock'n'roll and the occasional hamburger.

Oh I can ??‍♀️

Might struggle with a lack of pizza though - but is that really American.

Oh dear, and we were getting along so well...

Pizza is surely Italian.

I understand what you're saying - for me it's the American influence that saddens me the most.

The British identity has been evolving for thousands of years and for as long as we're British it will continue to evolve or we will stagnate.

Hopefuly after the end of march next year we will have implemented an evolutionary move to get us out of our presant stagnation...................but I doubt it. ?

Exactly

A friend of mine who is American and studied cultural influences in America said that one of the things that influenced the development of early blues was the music of the Scottish churches as in some areas there was a high Scots population who "owned" other people as slaves. And if any body has ever attended service at a Free Kirk of the western isles you'll understand why.

waulking music,

A sample of a walking song :

I love to go a-wandering,
Along the mountain track,
And as I go, I love to sing,
My knapsack on my back.

Chorus:
Val-de-ri--Val-de-ra-
Val-de-ri--Val-de ha ha ha ha ha ha
Val-de-ri--Val-de-ra.
My knapsack on my back.

I love to wander by the stream
That dances in the sun,
So joyously it calls to me,
"Come! Join my happy song!"

Chorus:
Val-de-ri--Val-de-ra-
Val-de-ri--Val-de ha ha ha ha ha ha
Val-de-ri--Val-de-ra.
My knapsack on my back.

I wave my hat to all I meet,
And they wave back to me,
And blackbirds call so loud and sweet
From ev'ry green-wood tree.

Chorus:
Val-de-ri--Val-de-ra-
Val-de-ri--Val-de ha ha ha ha ha ha
Val-de-ri--Val-de-ra.
My knapsack on my back.

High overhead, the skylarks wing,
They never rest at home,
But just like me, they love to sing,
As o'er the world we roam.

Chorus:
Val-de-ri--Val-de-ra-
Val-de-ri--Val-de ha ha ha ha ha ha
Val-de-ri--Val-de-ra.
My knapsack on my back.

Oh, may I go a-wandering
Until the day I die!
Oh may I always laugh and sing
Beneath God's clear blue sky!

Chorus:
Val-de-ri--Val-de-ra-
Val-de-ri--Val-de ha ha ha ha ha ha
Val-de-ri--Val-de-ra.
My knapsack on my back

I'm gonna assume that's a pun, right? and not a real song.

There's no fooling Tumsh, I can tell. Have you really never heard of it? Have a listen on You Tube, it's very jolly, and far less irritating that Val-da-ri etc.

And what does that have to do with Scottish Churches? It's a German song, with the tune we all know written after WW2.

I thought the OP asked about Volume not Weight, in which case its only limited by the total cargo weight and the height of the lowest bridge

Well this was the original question:

"so, whats the max capacity in metric tonnes of cargo a widebeam cargo boat can carry?"

I've only just realised the question referred to METRIC TONNES.  I should have replied " we don't carry any of them funny furrin' loads on our canals, only proper British TONS"

Errm,

Surely the fuel you used to sell of Alton was bagged in kilograms, George?

Was it, that's the trouble, I have tried to read all replies before replying then forgot what I was replying to.
