No worries I don't go anywhere without essential supplies.

Carlisle Station has a super bar which serves hot cider, and quick snacks, which served its purpose last year when  the scheduled Virgin train failed to materialise, and the replacement turned up four hours late.

This is the trouble with modern railways, too much reliance on electricity and electronics and computerization for all aspects of railway system. In days of yore when stuff was simpler and more mechanical trains kept going, like in bad weather like in heavy snow, you could generally rely on trains to keep running when other forms of transport couldn't.  But not anymore, trains invariably seem to be the first form of transport to give up, signaling got damp, rats chewed the wires, Gypsies stole the wiring, train caught on fire due to faulty wiring, snow in the trains electric traction motors, overhead electric catenery wires blown down, points stuck with ice, computers gone down. powerbox computer operator late getting out of bed in the morning.  In the last big load of snow we had, mainline steam loco hauled excursian trains were held up and badly delayed by broken down snow affected modern trains ahead of them.

That's only because its modern snow, created by global warming.  Old-fashioned snow of yesteryear did not give so many problems.

Exactly. It’s the wrong type of snow.

Not always!

Good film that, I've got it on DVD. Digging out a freight train and lighting bonfires under the loco's motion to de[ice it, all good stuff. Imagine lighting bonfires under a Pendolino or a class 43 power car. to de-ice it.

We still have Pacers running on the Northern Rail network.

There would be a list of volunteers to stack & light the fire, probably on Saturday when they are all stationary anyway!
