12v Fridge

I discovered the same a couple of years ago, or so.... whichever way I looked at it, a new 12v fridge was always going to be around £500.

Once the money was spent, and a couple of months had gone by, the money was forgotten, and the fridge has been enjoyed since.

I think the shoreline and waeco, and probably a few others use the Danfoss 12/24 volt compressor units. Not cheap but a great bit of kit provided they are not starved of voltage. Correct cable sizing and maintaining  battery voltage are important for efficiency and ultimate life.  As with any refrigeration, the condenser must have sufficient surface area and  space for air  circulation to reject the heat.

We are going to replace the cables to the fridge as part of replacing it as we did find that there was quite a considerable voltage drop along the cable run. The old Engel fridge never had a problem with this and was wired up this way for the almost 16 years it was in place!
