Please can we have our dredger back?

This came floating downstream in the early hours, gently kissed the stern of a tug and then settled against the barrier.  It had been moored in the basin under the flats at the start of Thornes cut.  No flow to speak of, or it could have been interesting, no doubt Crt will be wanting it back tomorrow....

Someone going past too fast and snapped the 'blue-string' ?

As it had to make it's way out through the flood gates, it probably had some "intervention ".  A lock and chain would have done the trick.

A brilliant film is ''Mr Pye'' set on the Isle of Sark where no motor vehicles are allowed. The film crew carried they're gear about in a Citroen 2CV with its engine removed and pulled by a horse.  Derek Jacoby is the other star of it.  The film is on U Tube.

Got a rope on and pulled it over to the wharf, now tied up to HATFIELD'S Jebus.  If they don't claim it back, it's going on eBay. :giggles:

No dredger was harmed in the making of this post.

That's not tied up - that's wrapping a bit of rope around a bollard.

(But well done for rescuing it - salvage fee in mind ?)

That's almost the officially approved BW/CRT "blue string pudding" technique.

For a perfect score it would need to be on either a lock landing or a swingbridge landing though.

We do try not to look too proffesionul.:P  Anyway, don't want the dredger to feel too secure, won't be the last time it's set adrift...

As we were walking away the gaffer said to me "we're gonna get some stick in the morning, when BW see that tying up". ?

That's the well known `round turn with 47 half hitches`used by all seasoned boaters!???

Balanced out by the not quite a half-turn on the dredger bollard itself - I suppose you get to keep the rope when it breaks free tonight though :D

At least you appreciate the underlying skill involved in doing a not quite half-turn. :P  Fear not, it'll be there tomorrow....

I am beginning to see why they made the Tom Pudding skippers use winches instead of relying on ropework ...

Ooooh meow, properly below the belt...?

Don't worry, I'm only jealous trying to wind you up (winch joke :D)

I don't suppose the square stern on that tug fits behind the jebus for towing does it?  Finder's keepers and all that ...

Never thought of that, we've a flat fronted push tug it should fit. ?  Anyway Crt won't be able to say too much about my tying up :giggles:
