Christmas is a coming ......

Featured Posts

Now, I have a rule that everyone gets a pressy of roughly the same value if they are in attendance, things like scarves, gloves, socks,  kinda special  ones.

Minor presents however are problematic: last year I gave out quite a few tartan diaries, I think I'l try harder this year. ?

The least useful stocking filler I received was a bling thing for hanging my handbag on a table when out for a meal!

Anyone better that?

The Chesterfield Canal Trust do rather nice calendars - the photos in them are all original taken by the canal trust members, some of whom you will know from here.

Mostly people will be getting mathoms from me.  The idea is that they get gifted onwards every year until they land on somebody who for some unfathomable reason likes them.

Thanks for today's new word - which, I find, is of Saxon origin. I have never heard it before - is it a regional dialect expression?

Not a county with which I am familiar. I should make at least a tolkien effort to visit it.

It is a word that I came across about 50 years ago, when reading The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Still, get Christmas over with, then the clocks go forward, and then the little ducklings start to appear.... and hey presto, balmy summer days, bbqs, chilled wine, lovely salads....

Christmas is just a necessary event to get through, to get to the 'other side'!

Trouble is, we'll be another year older, and some of us are using up our 'quota' fast ??

As with most things the size of the quota can always be expanded by the way you use it!!!!??

Unfortunately, as you near the end of your quota, this is no longer true...

We're just about sorted out now.

No presents - we stopped all that years ago.

Only one card to send to elderly aunt. (£1.80 plus a stamp from stock)

New pre-lit Christmas tree bought (£6.00)

Special treat for Christmas Day - homemade apple crumble and custard.  Ingredients on this weeks shopping list. (£5.00 tops)

So sorted for about twelve quid.

Enjoy your Christmas in the way that suits you.
