How much are you paying for smokeless?

Just trying to gauge our suppliers price increase.

 

We paid £34 for two 25kg bags last winter. This is for homefire ovals

 

On delivery today they told us the price next time will be £38, which seems a steep rise.

Slightly off topic.

We were supplying Calor 47Kg Propane at £62 until recently,

The price is now £75 and there is a further proposed increase before Christmas.

 

We have also had a letter stating that 'bulk' Calor gas will be increasing but no prices yet.

That sounds very expensive. Down here it seems to sell between £12-14 25kg bags, less if large bulk.

Local high street shop here (Littleborough) around £8 / bag.

Not far from the canal. They would deliver half a dozen gratis I'm sure.

Obviously no good for most folk but as a price comparison........

£3.99 for 10kg bags from Aldi. Burns very well.

Homefire is classed as a premium fuel and so will always be more expensive than Supertherm or Excel or any of the varied 10kg bags available from the supermarket.

 

There's also, obviously a difference in price depending on the size of the bag, whether it's 10kg, 20kg or 25kg. 

 

After a quick look, Homefire seems to be in the region of £13 to £16 per 25kg bag depending on your area.

 

Also there's Homefire and Homefire ovals which are classed as a different product too.

I paid the same at my local marina. I don't see Homefire as a superior fuel to Excel, indeed its now my preferred fuel.

150Kg of Excel (classed as smokeless), delivered and stacked in 10kg bags,  £60.  i.e £10 per 25Kg.   Local coal boat.

Phurnicite £470 a ton delivered and stacked, summer prices. £11.70 a 25kg bag.

Phurnicite is an expensive fuel.

Still at the top end price wise but far more reasonable for 100kg than 50!

Yes, an ever so slight difference from my OP! it's delivered  'loose' in 2 x 50kg bags. (And helpfully tipped into our bunker too).

£8.80 for 25kg bag of some sort of smokeless oval stuff, Seal fuels, behind the Severn Valley Railway station Bridgnorth, Don't know what its like in a stove. I use it in a furnace with forced air to melt metal.

£9.75 for 25kg of Newheat, in Newark. Made by the same people as Excel and seems as good.

50 kg anthracite and 50kg Supatherm in sacs from the local coal merchant, delivered, £39. We mix the two ,like cocktails.

Not the cheapest then. I retail Newheat for £7.70 (20kg) before any bulk buy discounts.

So not much difference to what we are paying in Newark. Unfortunately it's difficult to take advantage of bulk buy discounts when you have to store everything on board. Too much coal on the roof means the boat rolls more.

Apparently, Newheat is the same as the discontinued Pureheat, just bigger nuts.
