The BBC story says "The giant boat will be on display at York Maze until Sunday 4 November". I might add 'Or until it starts to smell bad' ?

If it's outdoors it should be cool enough to last a while. I've done quite well at growing pumpkins this year, though none more than a foot in diameter, and I still have some stored out in the garden, because I think they'll keep better there than at indoor temperatures. Over recent weeks I've made pumpkin pie quite often and a batch of pumpkin chutney yesterday, and also filled a drawer of my freezer with pumpkin, but I still have quite a lot left to use. I have no plans to build a bio-degradable boat.
