I am a member of an excellent shipping forum called "Ships Nostalgia", and we had this problem for months. It was eventually discovered to be a Korean site which was advertising casinos (we had a member who could read the content). It took a lot of effort on behalf of the administrators to get rid of these postings and for a while the site was unusable because we would have two or three pages of it every day. . We still, very occasionally, get one or two such postings but they are cleared out very quickly.

Thanks, Howard! We have lots to look forward, then.

But, as I doubt that more than 1 person in 1,000 on here understands Korean (or whatever language it is), what benefit do thy hope to derive from these posts?

Not being a computer geek I can’t answer other than to say that the experts on the other sites said it was computer generated so was posted automatically so not touched by human hands!

They gain on Google ranking due to having links from other domains to their site. Except its spam, so its detected and scored as such.....

IIRC the Invision forum system included a subscription to a central database which sensed and auto-blocked spam such as this, obviously it isn't perfect. It needs to be dealt with in the proper way (by marking as spam), this way it updates the central database of the details and if that receives reports from a number of unrelated forums it will be auto-blocked as spam.

If there's a pattern, its also possible to block the IP address, or a range of dodgy addresses, although they are getting good at finding and using batches of these so its not really that effective any more (lightens the server load considerably in the short term though).
