Popular Post Heartland
I feel as if the this word should be included in the English language. The definition of this term being: "A selfish person, act or action, which specifically relates to self interest and completely disregards the needs or requirements of people, regulations or rules." Certain cyclists are guilty of this transgression when they: (a) cycle along a towpath at speed (b) cycle in narrow places where dismounting would be a benefit to others (c) the wearing of a digital recording device whilst on the towpath as there is no likelihood of being knocked of their bicycle through the action of a motorist, but every likelihood of supporting their actions, however wrong, when challenged by walkers or boaters (d) expecting walkers and boaters to move out their path so that they can cycle uninterupted (e) the neglect of having a bell or other warning device (f) wearing items such as head cams that restrict their ability to perceive the action of others on the towpath

BWM
Surely not another anti cycling thread, with nothing new to add. I don't disagree with your objection to the behaviour mentioned but am weary of the daily mail type backlash these posts inevitably produce.

Don't read them then go back to reading the Daily Mail which you are so, obviously, fond of. The OP is correct. Cyclists on the towpath and on roads are a dangerous menace. It's high time they were licensed and insured.

Guest
There's probably regular threads on cycling forums that conclude all boaters are creepy hunchback anorak wearing folk that leer at towpath users.

Athy
1 hour ago, BWM said: Surely not another anti cycling thread, That's correct. It is a thread about the definition of a new word which HL has either recently seen or invented. Cyclists are used merely as an example. perhaps, rather than being negative, you could suggest other people or things about whom/.which the term could be used. I suggest an able-bodied person who parks his car in a parking space reserved for the disabled. Your turn.

roland elsdon
Because crash helmets are their to protect in a fall of i think up to 16 mph, not to save them from a prat in a 4 by 4. There was a death here recently where a lady riding home from shopping fell and died nothing else involved. She was not wearing a helmet and by report doing about 12 mph
