Does anyone paint their boat with a matt finish?

Did you mean Carnuba wax?

Yeah! that's the stuff.  I use it on the car as well, spray on, wipe and polish off easy.

Have ben thinking along same lines but undecided between a matt or silk finish.

My boat was painted with three colours of Dulux Weathershield by the previous owners. I thought it was insane and budgeted for a re-paint but after 5 years I haven't got round to it and the finish has lasted quite well.

 

It is matt and to be honest, doesn't look great but it keeps the rust at bay.

My boat is currently Weathershield gloss and has been fine for the last three and a bit years. Have used Weathershield many times on boats with great results - not water based version though.

The paint I have is International 10 Year Gloss so it should be compatible.

 

Its rather unfortunate but there are two "International" paint brands and as far as I know they are not connected. The matting additive comes from the International that makes specialists marine paints. The tin you show is the "domestic" International who sell paint mostly via B&Q.

 

I have used the International matting with paints from "proper" international, Rylards and Symphony and it was ok. I have also tried it with a "domestic colour matched" paint from a hardware shop and it did not really work, it reduced the covering power but did not significantly reduce the gloss.
