suggestions for a cratch/cockpit light

I'm looking for a portable lamp that I can use in the covered section of our boat, something that will hang on the frame of the canopy.  I used to have a battery powered lantern that wasn't very successful, but I have a 12v socket in the cockpit that something could be plugged into.  May end up lashing something together myself but I thought other members must have found solutions to this problem.

And a lot of camping stuff will be battery as well as a 12v socket option.

Ours is recharged by the cigar lighter, magnetic so it fits everywhere, and it's got a hook. It lives in the bathroom to save turning on the bigger light at night. We also use it going through tunnels to shine against the walls.

Thanks for the suggestions guys - yes camping gear suppliers might be a better bet than chandlers I suppose.
