I think I might put another stack of sleepers in the middle just for the peace of mind. Better safe than sorry.

I can see your logic, but that's not my experience. Or perhaps the supports of every dock I've ever been on over the last 14 years have been exactly the same height? (4 in total - 2 shown below)
