low water on T&M at Middlewich

Just to let you know that we took all day from big lock at Middlewich to Wheelock as it was a wind up trying to get into the locks especially at locks 69 and 70. The pound between Rumps Lock and 69 is very very low...be warned. Most boaters are now travelling south and very little traffic going North....for obvious reasons. Rained for a few hours but not likely to make much difference.

There was volunteer at the 3 locks in Middlewich and he reported it but no water was sent down...we had to move it ourselves from further up. Now in Wheelock and hoping that water will be sent down from Kidsgrove.

Sending water from Kidsgrove will take overnight at least

Maybe worth popping into the Red Bull CRT Offices to ask if they were aware of the request and what happened

But got to get there first.

Twas ok a couple of days ago when we came up but, as Markeymark says, most of the boats were coming up, few were going down. We were in a convoy of 8 going south through Harecastle -  only 1 boat came north before we went in, only one boat was waiting to go in as we came out.

Just to mention that we came through Middlewich this afternoon. We draw 2’ 8.5” static. Big lock to bottom of 3locks, no problem. 3 locks 1st pound very low. Skeg hit sill. Into neutral to let water levels equalise then got in. 2nd pound with 90 deg bend very low, but managed to negotiate without too much difficulty. Pound below Kings Lock seemed OK but very shallow. I think in part because this has previously had hordes of moored boats, but with the boatyard going bust these have all gone. I think there was a lot of silt built up under where the boats were moored. So best to visualise where the channel was and stick to it. Under the bridge below Kings Lock very shallow, channel is 2/3rds towards the towpath side. Junction area fine. Subsequent pounds going up fine so far, we are now in the Elton Moss pound and moored right up against the side wall.
