I reckon its mtb. He has previous form draining stuff down.

No when MTB takes water from the canal it is usually by punching a hole through the bottom of his boat!

(Or more accurately, paying someone else to do so! )

Someone accidentally drained Kennet and Avon Canal by leaving the locks open

What's wrong with that picture ?

It is missing about 20 scruffy boats with rusty bicycles, tree trunks and blue tarpaulins on their roofs.

Picnic tables and assorted detritus on the tow-path, and a gaggle of school aged children having a 'home-education'

Maybe they were let into the secret before it happened.

According to the CRT spokesperson on the radio, they know which boat it was. Will they do anything?

More to the point, do they know what the boater did to drain the pound?

If they just left the paddles open at one end after using the lock, its hardly a hanging offence and I'd suggest all of us have done that at one time or another. If this is it, I'd say CRT were more to blame than the boater for allowing that degree of leakage through a set of gates.

A similar event happens here now and again, when we have a canal to empty.

Hire boat comes out of the base round the corner on the T&M. Boat yard helps them through the first lock, Wardle, onto the Middlewich branch Shroppy. They cruise to Stanthorne, work up the lock, close the gates. Confused crew member opens the bottom gate paddles instead of closing the top ground paddles.

Runs off up towpath to catch up with boat which steerer has carried on, rushing.
