Temporary mooring for Higham Ferrers.

I'm heading down the Nene in a few days time and am hoping to visit the pubs and curry houses in Higham Ferrers. Is it possible to moor short term (lunchtime and overnight ) close to a footbridge that spans both the Nene and the A45 dual carriageway and connects both Higham Ferrers Pits Nature Reserve and Higham Ferrers Riverside Park with Wharf Road, from which pub access is good ?

If not where else can you moor to access Higham Ferrers ?

With many thanks in anticipation.

Nearest moorings are about a mile downstream passed the A6 Bridge on the left handside next to Citus Training Building. Two mile walk uphill to Higham Ferrers. Irthlingborough is closer

That's what I feared and I don't really want to visit Irthlingborough as the pubs dont look too great, although it is possible to get a curry there as well.

Higham is a an extension of Rushden and that's the armpit of Northamptonshire, Irthingborough is worse.

Ringstead has an excellent take away if you want a ruby, haven't been in the village pub since it changed hands last month but rumour has it that its improved.

Somewhere to stop with good pub and food has to be Forton mooring at Woodford. Or if just a pub (evenings only on weekdays) Denford

You could, but the banks are quite high and overgrown. It would be too noisy for me thou. I agree about the 48hr moorings near citrus training. Then follow the old railway line back along the river then up into Higham....Fair old walk though ?

You can, immediately on the downstream bank, righthand side, there was a boat moored there Saturday afternoon. Have also seen a boat moored on lefthand side by the next footbridge upstream, Friends of the river Nene should be getting a new mooring, bankside by the new Rushden Lakes Retail park (subject to contract)

That's hopeful thanks. If that place is used regularly to access Higham Ferrers hopefully the undergrowth wont be too challenging.

I take my petrol brush cutter with us, things have grown a bit wild lately, hacked the new portion of the FotrN Woodford mooring  and half of the Denford unofficial moorings recently and new FotrN signs have gone up at the new Addington moorings (the ninth new mooring) There are no easy towpaths like you canal softies are used to!
