Stratford upon Avon Festival

Just heading down Lapworth flight heading for Stratford upon Avon. Heard there is a festival this weekend and wondered how busy it will be and will mooring tomorrow afternoon be a likely problem? We are heading out on the river to Tewkesbury on Saturday.

Suggest you stop above Birmingham Road lock as its not a long walk into town

 

Up to 80000 can be expected to be in the town at the weekend

We have been to the river festival twice.  All the mooring on the river is pre booked for the boats attending the festival.  The festival boats will all be in place by lunch time today, most will have arrived yesterday.  I would expect that the basin would be full although that is of course on a first come basis and is CRT 48 hour.

 

An additional suggestion on mooring, is there is room for a couple of boats on the park below the first river lock, and that is not used for the festival, I noticed at least one boat doing that in previous years.

 

If you are not bothered about Stratford then moor below Wilmncote and just go through on Saturday.   Expect that it will be insane trying to move on the river, particularly given the weather, and the limmited space for all the rowing boat etc with the festival boats moored end on into the river.  Doing it early in the day would be best, so if you timed to hit the basin at 9am to buy your licence, assuming you need to, that would get you through whilst it was only the rowing club on the river.

 

Be prepared for massive congestion, it can take a very long time to get accross the tramway bridge on foot for example.

Well we made it into the basin yesterday and there were/are a few moorings here. Eventful day which started with no water in the pounds from Wilmcote top lock at all! CRT guy was in the flight running water through to top up the flight when a 'helpful' cyclist decided to drop the paddle on the top lock so the pounds on at the top of the flight just drained away. The CRT guy was further down so could not see what had happened. Fortunately the cyclist admitted to his actions when he saw the CRT guy at the bottom of the flight.
