Many years ago when we reached the Summit a lady came out of the lock keeper's house and sold us a brass plaque with Rochdale Canal, Summit Pass and a picture of the lock house on it.

Not a very good picture, top row third from left, are these still available?

Got one myself in 2002 from Lockie Ray who  lives there still, though he now drives wagons. In 1983 I canoed from Smithybridge to Sowerby Bridge and back over 4 days. The old lady rushed out and sold us a couple of day passes for our boats, she hadn't seen a boat go by in years. Presume it was the same lady? Tho possibly it was Mrs Ray that you met?

It would possibly be the late 1980's - early 1990's when the children were young. It was with Shire Cruisers, the second boating holiday we had ever done.

The plaques are certainly still available, as we got one as we went over the Summit at Easter. A young woman and her small daughter came out from a house at the summit to offer us one. I've no idea whether they were related to Ray though.

My son collects them and he said that it was quite a bit more expensive than others he had bought in the last few years, but I can't remember how much.
