Actually I was listening to Equinox, with its 2-cylinder Kelvin, approaching our mooring the other week and it did sound quite like a steam engine.

I nearly bought Equinox about 10 or 12 years ago. Can't remember why not now.

None of my engines is excessively noisy, and none is super quiet, just like most vintage lumps.

Many years ago I was passing under a bridge at Willington, my HA2 was just on tick over. 

Man above me on the bridge looked down at me and with a knowing smile he nodded and said "Gardner?"

 

"No" I replied "Human Resources Manager"

I too like making jokes like this.

 

My fave when asked if it is a Lister and I'm feeling perverse, is "Yes, if the pump-out tank is full".

It was the base engine for a Kringfrisher KD36!

Looks like a STW2 to me. Wrong rocker covers for an SW and the studs for the water outlet manifold are inline not staggered as per an SW.

That's it. Nice engine if it isn't frost damaged to death. The exhaust manifold isn't encouraging
