If it is hot (and it does flow) you can easily have a burnt or painful thumb whilst it is holding back the torrent until you work out what to do next.

Another very good point. Something I do intuitively but omitted to point out.

The domestic accident mentioned in post 8 involved hot water under pressure so I have learned that lesson. Thumb was unable to stem the flow so had to run and clean up the mess later.

 

Current project delayed for a day or two. The Charlatans originally came from Northwich and have returned to put on a whole week (or more) of gigs and other events. This means that the wonderful Salty Dog was not available for drinking last night. Will maybe go up to Screwfix today and have a very early evening pint at the dog.
