Richard, Mike is right

I have already had the nut off

I put the gearbox in gear ( forward ) and undid the nut

I just have to contort myself into some sort of unusual yoga

postition to find the woodruff key ! !

Thanks Richard for the air concern

In which case, use a lever or a hammer to drive the flange off. It is on a straight shaft with a Woodruff key like this:

(Random image from Google) (If a bit mangled)

It's not an 'Air of concern', I'm trying to help you avoid unnecessary work, What I described is pretty much my day job

I would love to find a simple way of doing this job, helicoil sonds so good

BUT I have lost 3 yes 3 drill bits into this bolt, titainium drill bits, so drilling

IT`S OFF ! ! !

I have done it ! ! !

I used a cut down bolt and a wheel nut from a 1974

Hillman hunter gls ( the one with twin dc0e40 webbers and a holbay engine )

to spread the extraction force evenly.

I put the cut down bolt between the output shaft and the prop shaft, placed

bolts though the prop shaft flange into the output flange and tightend.

Nothing happened for a while, then CLICK the output flange started to move.

It took a while but the flange came out ! Leaving the woodruff key in the

output shaft and no great GUSH of gearbox oil.

Now all I have to do is get the sheered bolt drilled out and retapped ! ! !

Thanks again for the hints and tips and the info.

I`ll update you all with my progress

All the best

Hello all

As promised, here is an update.

The flange came off, had the old bolt drilled out

and re fitted the flange and all the other gubbins.

I let her idle for 20 mins then took her out for  a little

trip down and back along the cut for about an hour

and she did`nt fall apart ! ! !

Time was getting on, so the plan this weekend is to

just tweek everything up and take her out again.

Thanks once again for all the helpful tips and

general banter.

All the best
