bigcol
I have a man rose XF100T extractor fan i know that a lot of these fans have 12/24v fans inside, and have gizmos in so it can be plunged into mains 240. but the fans them selves are 12/24 i have a 24 volt feed and thinking about attaching the 2 bulk wires that go direct to the fan on the rhs of the board. can anyone tell me if I’m on the right path if you can buy 24v extractor fans the fan works, but is a old one so no bother if I break it. col

Boater Sam
Looking closely at your fan I can see an electronic circuit for a run on timer, no sign of a smps to run a 24v motor off mains. The motors are not brush motors or stepper motors so cannot be 24v DC motors. I think you are wrong in assuming that it is a low voltage DC motor. But I will await being corrected. bigcol
Boater sam you are right. Thankyou ive tried it nothing ive got the fan out, wired it directly nothing. the tell tale sign for me was the weight of the fan it self wasnt a light weight fan, heavly built so looking for a 24v extractor fan
Jen-in-Wellies
No idea where these are going to be installed, but 2 x 12V fans wired in series would work if 24V is hard to find. Mounted side by side, or front to back, or in two different locations and run at the same time. 12V fans are easy and cheap to get. Jen
bigcol
Re getting a low power fan, can see plenty of 12v low voltage ones, but no 24v. just wondering if a 12v fan will work i know 24v lights work on 12v imagine have to give it ago 13 minutes ago, Jen-in-Wellies said: No idea where these are going to be installed, but 2 x 12V fans wired in series would work if 24V is hard to find. Jen Hi Jen thanks for the reply, I’m going to give it ago, and yes I found 24v fan units on their own, cheap as chips. Decision time

OldGoat
I've used 24V computer fans all over my boat - 2 in series for the fridge to keep the noise down. However they were bought some years ago and a ready supply may not be available. You might be lucky on eBay. two 12v fans in series will work. Those on ebay are either cheap plastic jobbies or overpriced cheap plastic jobbies. Don't be fooled price has nothing to do with it. They probably will last for years - so any modifications you make to the casing should reflect the need to change the unit from time to time. In the bad old days there were used computer shops who recycled such parts....
