Lister Petter 5kva genny - No output

Hi

 

My genny (Lister Petter 5kva) has worked perfectly for the past year or so, however, yesterday the genny still fired up but it wasn't generating power. I plugged my grinder in and it ran really slowly. I plugged the digital radio in and it power that.

 

Any suggestions on what might be the issue before I start taking it to bits?

Check the output voltage and hz

Checked it again this morning and it is showing no output voltage.

I don’t know too much about the alternator on your genny but I’ve fixed a number of smaller petrol ones and the usual culprits are brushes and voltage regulators.  Both of which take minutes to change and cost a few quid from the internet auction site of your choice, although might take a while if coming from China 

 

I would start by Looking at the brushes some one will have put a video up on you tube showing how

There must be something in the way of output voltage or it would not make your grinder run 'really slowly'.
