The stoppage is at Clifton Wharf, North Rugby, and is for a new bridge to go in. I am passing that way tommorow (in a car) so will let you know if no-one else does first.

That would be most helpful thank you

CRT will be the last to know and let anybody else know.

How long have you been on the waterways?

*should know by now winkysmiley*

First of all I said "Likely" I didn't say they would.

Secondly I didn't suggest they'd share that information, however they should have a better idea than any member of this forum as they are a shareholder in the project.  I guess it depends on how you ask the question, and how easily you accept "dunno" as an answer.

To answer your question, I've been on the canals since 1966, and have witnessed a mediocre improvement in service from CRT compared to BWB, yet I am disappointed in the poorly thought through support for cyclists and other non revenue users.

I shan't enquire how long you've been on the waterways as I don't see the relevance. :)

Apparently they are a week behind due to the snow/ice etc

Galliford Try plc - Solihull office number is 0121 717 5400

Don't we normally get snow and ice at this time of year........... half expected this kind of lame excuse!

To Archie

Does this mean your towing job may be in jeopardy this weekend?

Looks as though this may be the case!  Of course, we may not be able to get through when re-opened - contractors being notorious for dumping materials in the canal and waterways authorities being notorious for not checking it has been cleaned out.......

Indeed! Not far from the same place, I remember BW actually dredging the Brownsover Arm in the 1980s so it was fit for navigation - a friend I went up it one afternoon soon afterwards - but a month later the contractors working on the first bridge just tipped the rubble into the water and the Arm has remained closed ever since.

Its just been cleared again to look nice for the housing development, but I think it still has a barrier to stop actual boats cluttering up the place.

I like many others phoned CRT and the young lady said she had had so many calls that she had checked with the guys on the ground and they told her that they were not aware of any delays and expected the canal to be opened at 4pm on the 16th.

We have our fingers crossed!

Hi Haggis and IainS,

Saw you as you passed Alvecote Marina. I was walking the apprentice cuthound, Zeus, who barked at your dog who was looking out from the front of Kelpie. Apologies for that, Zeus is still very much a "work in progress" when it comes to socialising with other dogs. We passed 17 dogs on this mornings walk and yours was one of 4 that he reacted strongly to.

Mrs Hound reported that you waved as you passed DQ.

Hi Cuthound,  I did wonder if it was you and your hound at Alvecote this morning

That was our young dogs Meg who was out the front if it had been ryan he would have been the instigator of the barkng but fortunately he was havig a nap. Came up Atherstone in a reasonable time and heading for the Anchor now

I've just visited the area this afternoon.

The barrier is still in place.

The site is deserted, nobody present.

Probably gone to do a bit of work on a motorway then...

CRT should either lease the canal to them during closures, or include stiff penalty clauses in for over-runs. Mind you delays due to bad weather come under Force Majeure.

What would be useful is a large sign at the Hillmorton Locks winding hole and the equivalent on the other side of the stoppage, telling boaters that the canal is closed ahead and this is their last chance to turn around.  We have seen several boaters who knew nothing of the stoppage, having to reverse from the bridge site back to Hillmorton.

Good news, I have a 57 footer sat at Braunston waiting to go north, just need Arlewas to dump a load of water before I get there!

Well, the other way round opens on the 16th too, you can probably do the Soar in about 2 hours if you shoot all the wiers and miss the locks out. :P
