Its "Big Belly Oak" in Savernake forest (as the sign says!) There are about 40 ancient oaks here in Savernake of similar nature. Will post you another in a sec...

Never been but we are in the new forest area in a few weeks, might have a look if we have time.

The other half is very patient but there is a limit to how many trees she can look at with me, so we might have to waste some time doing other things :)

The 1 1/2" version easily available could be used too, by buying a 1 1/2" x 1 1/4" brass (or plastic) bush and screwing it onto the basin waste tail.

I think this was basically part of Batavia's suggestion. but he suggested a 1 1/4" double female elbow first to get you pointing sideways, then a reducer like that to get down to a size you can buy a screw in barbed connector for.

Obviously a reducer like those can't go straight on to the bottom of the waste, as both parts would be male.

I couldn't find adapters that were female at one end and male the other, or I might even have gone UP to 1 1/2" and then used one of these...

Obviously if they made those in 1 1/4", you could do the whole thing in one part.

I couldn't find them.

As you rightly say trying to search for 1 1/4" in Google, on eBay or on a particular merchants site is usually a nightmare.

Back to topic, if depth is an issue, another way is reducing elbow then threaded hose tail:

About a fiver for galv iron one from the UK and a bit more for a stainless one from China based suppliers.

Yes, I agree, and I may still go for something like that when I'm not up against it on time.  Even neater than Batavia's.  Certainly need one before it would get here from China, and having been ripped off by Far East suppliers on eBay I now tend to avoid them.

I couldn't easily find them from a UK supplier without it costing me as much in carriage as for the part, but admitttedly I was looking for brass, and just about cross eyed by that stage from too much searching.

An easy and neat way of doing it is  search for something like Silicon Hose 90 degree reducer on Ebay -these will fit onto standard 1 1/4 pipe /waste and you can select whatever size you want for the reduced pipe. I used 22 mm as this is then mechanically fitted into my skin fitting using standard 22mm to 3/4 inch fitting.

Sorry - misread it.....

You are going up a size to use one of those 1 1/2" things with tails

Yes, that would work.

Shame the tail like that I had was amongst the stuff I just took back to Screwfix for a refund! :banghead:

Yes I was recommending using it with a 1 1/2" x 1 1/4" bush. The bush will screw directly onto the basin waste and the adaptor in the pic will screw directly onto the bush.

Not sure what you mean by 'with tails' though!

I think he means hose tails.

Yes, use of the plural was am accident, and sloppy.

I meant the plastic fitting pictured with a hose tail on it.

The very same bit as Cath has gone and bought for me again from Screwfix, me having returned one yesterday with other bits I thought I didn;t need!

Now I'm stuck until the various bits I have ordered off e-Bay turn up.

Well I thought that was going to be a nice easy solution.

But it isn 't!

These.....

48625_P&$prodImageMedium$

.... which say on the packaging "Size 40mm / 1 1/2", prove not to have a 1 1/2" BSP female thread on them at all.

1 1/2" BSP should have an internal "minor" diameter on the threads of about 44.8mm.  However this part has an internal diameter on the threads of more like 51.3mm That's close to 1 3/4" BSP I think (quoted as about 50.8mm), but not close enough I'm convinced I know what it is. Obviously this just slips over the male thread on the 1 1/2" end of my purchased reducer, as it is far too large. :banghead:

So it seems the threads associated with plastic fittings on plastic plumbing nominal called 1 1/2", are not actually 1 1/2" BSP, (or at least not on this bit of plastic plumbing!).

Can anybody reading this actually explain it to me?  Is the nut on something like the above picture, (sold as "Size 40mm / 1 1/2") actually some standard recognisable size?  If so, what is that size likely to be, please, and am I likely to be able to buy a reducer from that to 1 1/4" BSP?

(Note - I'm very keen on trying to resolve this solution, as I don't even really have the height to implement well the 90 degree elbow suggestion - let alone anything taking up even more depth)

Oohhhh this is crazy. I actually used one of those fittings myself on a shower waste I fitted just before xmas and I'm (almost!) certain mine was 1 1/2" BSP. I'll check next time I visit that boat.

If yours is actually 1 3/4" BSP it will almost certainly screw onto the outlet thread of a standard 1 1/2" trap if you take the nut off. Try one of these from Screwfix

84362_P&$prodImageMedium$

https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-bath-trap-white-40mm/84362

The inlet on this trap should accept the 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" brash bush you hav, which in turn should screw onto your basin waste outlet. The extra height this trap gives you will also be dead handy.

Do you reckon this is the same, please?

I ask, because the thing I already have is branded as "Floplast", so might increase the prospect that both bits have similar threads.

Yes. I BET your hose tail adaptor will screw onto the outlet of your Flowplast trap. Try it!

P.S. "It ought to be called "Flowpast", not ""Floplast" I reckon!!!

Maybe do a heinous bodge with silicone for now, then some time later a great way of doing it may show up.

I've had decent success with the better rated more specialist sellers on Ebay and Aliexpress.

The chrome trap and silicone elbow looks good if the latter can be hidden by panelling.

Don't think so.

Something like this wouls be great if it went down to a much smaller tail, but this still needs some kind of hose reducer.

I'm amazed this is as hard as it is.   There must be countless wash basins on boats with standard 1 1/4" wastes, but discharging via a hose of circa 3/4" ID.  Hoiw do boat fitters normally solve this?

i explained say back on post 23 now I did mine, so get yourself down to a decent plumbers merchant and raid his fittings bin till you find what works.

It's not hard, there's plenty of bits out there, just not at a budget of less than five pounds say. :)

Would have thought one standard way of doing it is go from a standard trap to a BSP thread then on to a stepped hose tail (or even a BSP reducer and hose tail:)

https://mcalpineplumbing.com/sites/default/files/uploads/drawings/S29.pdf

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Male-BSP-Threaded-Hosetail-Barbed-Fitting-Thread-Connector-Pond-Caravan-Boat/192125322282

It's not a bad idea to have a selection of BSP reducers 1-1/4" - 1" - 3/4" - 1/2" - 1/4" as spares, say a fiver from BES, as they can help get out of a whole host of problems.

I think this one single part will actually achieve the same, but probably not hang down that far......

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Female-BSP-Threaded-Hosetail-Barbed-Fitting-Thread-Connector-Pond-Caravan-Boat/182446571090?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=485024769872&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

However it is not ideal wshere I need to use it, and managing to go sideways rather than downwards is definitely preferable

Batavia's all brass solution is probably ideal, though clearly not achievable at anything like the £5 you mention!  However I hoped to solve this quickly, and couldn't find the bits I needed withou having to pay heaps extra in carriage.
