jddevel
Got a couple of "sofa" beds in my house. Only used occasionally but were quite expensive. From my point of view what lets them down is the quality of "cushions" but then my old back is not too good.

Simon (Hawksmoor)
Wilsons of Kinver have one - the "Thames" It will open across the boat - just about. The mattress needs to ride up the wall a little. It is a two person sofa - not the most comfortable to sit on but not bad Comfortable as a bed We have had one on Hawksmoor for 5 years http://www.wilsonsupholstery.co.uk/narrowboat-furniture/narrowboat-sofa-beds/ It is the only one we have found that will fit on a narrowboat and open crossways. Ajs1001
Very many thanks to everyone who made suggestions - we really appreciated the ideas. In the end we went for a Canterbury 3 seat sofa. It is large 3 seat sofa which easily converts into a double size bed. A very comfortable sofa (which was our main requirement) that folds down into a comfortable bed. It was a bit of a gamble buying it as the factory was so far from our house and boat that we had to buy it on the basis of the description only. However we are really pleased with it, and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a sofabed for their narrow boat. https://www.sofabedbarn.co.uk/sofa-beds/11-canterbury-3-seat.html
