If you burn petro coke type fuel on your stove like Excel, Multi heat ect. A good way of discovering any oily smoke escaping from the stove is to study the atmosphere around you. If you can't see the telly screen or the kettle, it is a good sign that you have oily smoke fug caused by a leaky stove. Anyway if its only a slight leak, a test can be carried out. Just light a gas ring on your cooker and if the ''tips of the flames are orange'' it is a sure sign of oily smoke in the cabin which may not be visible.

But be aware that if you put the kettle on the stove then open a sachet of cup-a-soup and tip it into a mug alongside the stove, the tips of the flames will also turn orange.

So every time you make a mug of soup, you must inhale some of the powder. This is where you find out if the mushrooms in your soup are just ordinary ones or not...
