There is going to be a high pressure just over Barton Turns.

The models are actually predicting it colder in Derbyshire/Cheshire than Birmingham and south.

https://www.netweather.tv/forum/topic/89388-model-output-discussion-here-comes-the-beast/?page=132

They are all agreed the cold is here for a while (2 weeks) but half the models (and only half) are predicting a low pressure coming up from the south on Thurs/Frid next week which would dump a couple of foot of snow on southern/southwestern counties - warm air hitting very cold air. That's 6 days out so there is little chance of predicting perturbations like that. I have never seen the net weather site so bullish about how cold (or how much snow) we are likely to get!

Mrsmelly said it was going to be warm and sunny by Friday:P

Alan's kind posting sounds a bit depressing, but its indecipherable on my phone anyway - looks more like a Dulux paint chart! Anyway, I'm going by Mrsmelly's forecast since I like it better.

You need to go to the MrSmelly school of meteorology.  His weather forecasts are always nice. ;)

Sound enough advice. I just did too as we're travelling home with the boat all tucked up. I do hate shutting down the stove and leaving her when there's talk of an ice age on its way from Siberia.

Never mind. We all have our cross to bear.

Anothe skool of thought used to be look out the window and describe what you see. This was statistically the most accurate way of forcasting the weather for tomorrow, and I suspect it still is!

Coo! These things usually come to nothing in Croydon; we see headlines in the national papers implying the whole UK will be blanketed in snow, then the south east only gets a little on top of hills like the Chilterns and North Downs. So far this winter I've only had snow on one morning in December, and that melted by sunset. This time, London has a yellow warning of snow for three consecutive days Monday to Wednesday; we shall see. As I'm recovering from an operation, I won't be going out much anyway.

Appropriate wear will be sunglasses, not so much for looking out at the glare off the snow, as for protecting the eyes from Alan de Enfield's amazingly colourful charts.

That  was Mr Rusty. Mrs Rusty was busy polishing the Magic Roundabout.

Doing proper womanly things then.

My good lady recently asked if she could buy some of those 'modern' shoes with long pointed toes - I of course refused explaining that she wouldn't be able to get close enough to the sink, after all, she did get married in white, and we all know that most domestic appliances come in white.
