Morris "straight 30", I don't know its serial number, or Castrol "classic" which I suppose is also a straight 30, and which comes in a pleasingly old-fashioned proper metal tin, reflected in its price!

I am pleased to hear about your good experience with Walsh's, who supplied our 2LW with which we have been very pleased for the last 11 years.

Five, according to that link! I guess that the XL30 would be the one which has been used in our engine.

I was assuming you wouldn't use the motorcycle or running in oil

A techie he thinks I am...

Actually, i don't know what oil was put into it when it was first installed in Trojan, at which time it had jut been rebuilt and was thus running in. I guess Mel Davis must have put some in but he never told me what kind it was.

Hi,

I use Morris's SAE 30, Golden film in mine, not sure about the filter as i use a Gardner product.

It's worth searching the Forum as there was some interesting posts ( 4 years ago) about grades of oil to use in Gardner LW engines, with the definitive answer coming from Gardner specialists.

'Running in' takes me back a good few years - seeing new cars with the 'running in' sticker in the rear window, and oil changes after the first 500 miles (may have been 1000), how times have changed my current car a Hyundai, needs it's first oil change at 24 months and has not used any oil in 9000 miles.

Most of that is oil technology

The filter is a direct brand replacement, ok to use.

I and the previous owner have always used Morris Goldenfilm 30.
